SWR Productions Forum _ Rise of the Reds _ How to join ROTR community

Posted by: Stillwest 1 Sep 2017, 11:09

Hi there!

I'm i new one in Generals online gaming. I play C&C since 2003, but only with bot. Please give me (and maybe some other noobs) advice, how to join ROTR swr.net community. Now it seems like nobody want play with noob, everyone hates the beginners. But as we all know - nobody was born like a pro. Help us to understand how to speak, what to type in online chat and which abbreviations use to be accepted.

Thanks!

Thanks for reaching out and welcome to SWR forums. I'll try to share some tips and mindsets that might be useful if you wish to start playing reds with other people.

- The PvP aspect of this game is hard. You need to learn the mechanics but most importantly you need to learn to control your own mind. It's a lot harder to succeed if you suffer from stress and real life issues. I might sound a little too serious here but this is what I experienced myself.

- We have a small amount of active players, you will meet the same people often and most of them are not beginners. I guess you already noticed this.... and this means that You will not win a lot of games for some time. First, your objective should be to understand what happened and why. The outcome of the game (win or loss) should not be that relevant. Watch replays. See how other people build their base. In what order they do what (especially in the first minute)? How fast are they?

Now for some technical stuff...

The netcode of the game is old... and crap. Some people (like me) cannot see some messages in the lobby. The game has a tendency to crash when people load in, mismatches happen sometimes that we can do ... not much .. about, some players will not load in when the game is started and serious lag occurs especially in team games in the first minute. You need to get used to these.

Quite often when you are not the host you will be asked to "ping" the chat especially when the countdown appears. This means that you should type something into the chat just to generate network traffic so the game realizes that you are still connected otherwise there is a high chance that you won't load.

We also have a discord server and a skype group where people can chat but more often than not it's spam and trashtalk. I still recommend joining because direct messages are very helpful and as I mentioned the game is not reliable when it comes to chatting. This is also why you might think we hate beginners, we do not, but some people just rarely say a word because they are either busy clicking or because they know you will probably not see it anyway.

My skype name is iatusi, you can also look for me on discord, some people even have the link in their signature here on forums. You can also throw me your credentials here in PM and I can add you and chat about things in detail as well.

this is not zh, where no one likes noobs...
I think its the other way around here in rotr, noobs don't like to loose all the time.. and stop playing.
Majority of players, if you ask them what you did wrong, or why u lost, will help you get better..
and pros will play noobs, of-course if u don't learn anything, and keep making mistakes, the pros are going to get tired of u lol...

Here is how to play PvP and creating a lobby..
make sure you are on the latest test build (the mod is being developed)
http://forums.swr-productions.com/index.php?showtopic=12177

No one will play with you unless you have 10,000 cash set starting amount. so make sure you play with that setting.
since your a bot player, u will probably loose every game to a pvp player, if you don't attack, and be more aggressive.
Learn you hotkeys, for starters hotkey your war factory to number 1, and your army you made to 2
(Ctrl+# is how you hotkey)
This alone will make a huge difference in your play, since all u need to do now is hit that key, to select that unit/building... or double tap.. to jump right to it.

from there, its all about racking up games, and learning from your mistakes, also just visit
http://forums.swr-productions.com/index.php?showforum=80

and checkout replays by active players

welcome!

Thank you all for warm welcome!

I watch replays for 3 years yet, but things seems different when you just "watch" and when you play itself. I hope i'm not totally incompetent and will learn things.

There are one little problem for me - most of you are english speakers. And sometimes i don't understand what some of the abbreviations means. For example: GG, HF and so on.

Thank you guys one more time! I wish you great games and i hope i will stay in community.

I'm glad to hear that you was one of my viewers. Sadly I do not have the capability to stream anymore, the internet connection is too slow for that where I live right now.

Welcome to SWЯ. Have your Gas mask and Chemsuit on all the time, toxicity level is serious.

Use the link Mizo posted to join SWЯ discord group. You can discuss whatever you want (including those that are not allowed on forum Now inb4 those get banned as well cause reasons), Ask for games and ask various questions about the game, be it about gameplay or modding or others. I8.gif
