SWR Productions Forum _ Tidal Wars _ Any way this mod can be used in combination with Shockwave?

Posted by: Shockwavelover84 11 Oct 2014, 2:30

If it's possible this would be badass, since the only thing Shockwave is really missing is the Naval aspect.

If your talking about installing both mods at the same time then no.

That's what I meant - that's a shame - I was thinking that if this mod only adds new units and structures that it wouldn't conflict, any way it could be worked around?

Not without doing a lot of modding.

Umm, I am not sure. N5 wants to make a launcher for all his mods if I remember correctly. But if it will be possible to have it installed alongside SWR mods and work well, I have no idea.

@Shockwavelover84:
no, you can't. this is a fully independent mod, not an addon for other mods. if you want the ships to be in ShockWave, you'll need to edit ShW and add the ships manually by modding.

@V.Metalic:
he mean he thought this mod can be used to add the ships to ShockWave, not if both mod can be installed in same folder.

I thought that too, but I reacted to Zeke's comment.

In that case I will reply as well.

While it would be possible to do something like ShockWave's classic cameos mode and make a tidal wars version that works with ShockWave, there's absolutely no chance of that happening, because: 1. As he has said above, this is his own mod, no modder in his right mind would make his own mod bend over backwards for another mod. 2. It will require several metric shit tons of work, and this mod isn't even at it's first beta yet.

tl;dr

Thanks for the reply - just out of curiousity does this mod only add ships, or does it add other new units, technology, factions, etc as well?

IMO if it's strictly a naval addition with no other unique content then it wouldn't be making it "bend over backwards" for Shockwave or other mods, I think if it was compatible it would just increase this mod's popularity - but I'm sure you've already got your design plans pretty set out; that was just my 2 cents.

Spoken like a guy who has obviously never modded ZH before tongue.gif

I never would have countered your idea if I thought it could be as easily done as you say. Even if this mod only adds ships, and even if they we're placed on seperate object inis so as to not conflict with ShockWave's stuff, the ini files that handle the upgrades, buttons, commandsets, particles, fire fx, sounds, voices cannot be seperated and would have to be combined manually.

As I have said in my previous post: "It will require several metric shit tons of work, and this mod isn't even at it's first beta yet."

For the first phase of the mod, Tidal Wars will only add few basic ships for all sides, and only vanilla factions that are playable, along with few naval maps ofc. This is to give the players a demonstration on how the naval aspect work on this mod.
Later on, we'll bring not only naval additions but also major overhaul on the other stuffs as well. These stuffs are such as expanded tier system, a lot more variety of both naval and non-naval units, new sub-faction system, and also some graphic enhancement.
So it's just not possible to make this mod can be merged to another mod, because we have our own direction in the mod design.

If you read their website or Moddb page, they say that, "Besides the ships, we are planning to add new ground and aerial units, structures, and an enhanced tiering system for better gaming experience."
