I got some impression after USA SF Gen and RF RD Gen that some other factions may get unique basic infantry units . . .
Let's wait and see.

Pretty sure more or less every faction will ultimately get an unique basic infantry for one it's gens for obvious reasons.

Yes I like Touhou... and the problem is?

Slightly off topic but guys there is a mod for the original Generals called InFusion:

http://www.moddb.com/mods/infusion-mod

The only reason that I'm even pointing this mod out (it's actually not very good, but that's another story...) is that they made the Red Guards come out in packs of 10 (and Battlemaster tanks out in packs of 3)... without changing their prices. At the same time they also added some high tech weapons (type 98 tanks, assault armed troops and such) to the PLA... In other words, there is the option to role play the modern "high tech" PLA as well as making it easier to spam lots of cheap Red Guard troops...

I guess playing through the Chinese campaign (though some missions are buggy, so play through them without the mod first) with this mod would approximate the ROTR's interpretation of the events of the original game's story...

---

I'm really not trying to promote a random mod or anything I swear.

Is there ever any tension between the red guards and the professional PLA?
Like a power struggle with skirmishes and in that case who would win that?

Not direct confrontation, no, but there is a built up rivalry and dis-ownment by the regular PLA forces towards the Red Guard. The PLA see the Red Guard as something beneath them, inadequate volunteers who aren't up to snuff, and at worst, they see them as inferior soldiers in their entirety. You could guess some officers making reports of the Red Guard units in their command or as auxillary forces may be belittled or discounted in some reports by grudging PLA officials, but not always.

Sort of how Space Marines belittle the Imperial Guard- of course the realities is is that the Red Guard DO a crapload of the work and sacrifice themselves quite a bit and bleed on the field, just like the Imperial Guardsman of 40k lore.
