I recently found a few pages on wikipedia about past experimental tanks.

The first is the "Obyekt 279", which heavily reminded me of the Golem tank of the RF.

Could have that inspired the Golem?

That was all I could find that looked to have inspired RotR, but I found three other interesting tanks:

The first is the T28 Super Heavy Tank, and US Prototype from 1945 and the second is the weird Landkreuzer P 1500 Monster, a German WW2 tank that looks like some spider sci-fi tank. After that I found the "Black Eagle", the design of which reminds me of the Chinese Battlemaster. Personally, I think that the GLA could scrap up something similar to the T28, but I guess the current Maruder is enough.

I am shocked about "Obyekt 279". Interesting info you found. I thought that Golem was devs imagination. But it seems that there is similar tank in real life (with real specifications, similar to Golem tank, 130mm main gun arnament for example or ability to resist shockwave of a nuclear explosion but in game tank is immune ro radiation as I remember).
Nice !
Actually, devs team don't take suggestions. GLA is high mobility faction. I dont think that heavy tank will fit it's (faction's) role very well.

The Golem is indeed based on the 279.

No, you move.

The T28/95 GMT was actually in shockwave, in the form of the basilisk.

I was about to mention that. wink.gif

Yes, in the Shockwave mod, General Deathstrike's "Basilisk" heavy tank is based off of the T28.

I've got a question.
The Wikipedia says that Tank - Object 279 has ... The track chain, running practically along the whole track length provided for increased cross-country capabilities on swampy terrain, soft soils and area full of cut trees, Czech hedgehogs, antitank obstacles and the like....

So will Golem have an ability cross the European Czech hedgehogs without any problems?

The Golem was around way before we even considered giving the ECA Tank Traps and such a strict adherence to RL details would probably take things too far. Apparently the super-heavies can, in fact, run them over but I'm not sure on the Golems.
