Game running too slow / fps drops? -also multiplayer Options

Hello, a bit new to the scene, started playing ZH again a year ago for nostalgia. Then started modding, with shockwave, but now that has grown old, so im giving ROTR a swing a digging it, only issue is i cant seem to get it to run well. Every game starts fine, but i get like 5-8 minutes into the game and everything starts to slow down, i get fps drops and the game seems to go into slow motion and becomes unplayable because its so slow :/ im pretty tech illiterate, and play on a cheap laptop, but its still i laptop made in 2016 playing a 14 year old game lol, so i cant imagine how i could be too much for my laptop, even if it is low-end O.O

Also on a side note multiplayer doesnt seem to like me, with ROTR every time i try to go into multiplayer, it now says i need to update, but i cant seem to time an update :/ and even before ROTR it would always yell at me for not having the right "version" of the game (?) which confused me since it was the same game, same patchs, everything up-to-date.

Halp plz, sorry for my noobishness if im in the wrong place or something lol

download and install 1.86 into the same folder as zh and 1.85

I am running 1.86 tho :/ well im running 1.87, but ive tried to go on multiplayer on both and it still says i need an update

I can't seem to get anything to work, is there a tutorial or explanation anywhere of how to set multiplayer up from start to finish? also i assume im going to need a legit version that isnt cracked, anyone know where i can buy/obtain a not cracked version? Does the general community use Gen tools? im so confused someone halp lol

The order you install things:
ZH
ZH 1.04
ROTR 1.85
ROTR 1.86 <-- if you want to be 100% safe seperate your installs so your 1.86 and 1.87 are seperate
ROTR 1.87

Zh 1.04 can be found with a simple google search
1.85/1.86 are both on moddb in the download sections
1.87 is here on the forums.

thanks for the response! And is GenTools the only way to get multiplayer (with the mass of the community)? and if so is there a way to get a noncracked version outside of hunting down the actual CDs?

Ive actually fixed most of it i think, bought it on origin, reinstalled and redid everything, now i just need to figure out how to configure SWR.Net im so tech illiterate dont make fun of me lol

Dont worry about being tech illiterate, you should see me lol
Get the latest version of gentool from the gentool website for starters (anything beyond version 7 works to memory, but that might change. For reference i run 7.3 and that works 100% fine).
Next allow the game to be run as admin, and finally allow firewall access to swt net (when you boot up the game with swr net on it should have a big pop up anyway, and you just need to hit accept, its not too hard )

Once all that is done, open the launcher, go too the big red swr.net button and hit that so it turns green, wait to see how many people are online, then start the game.
from there, go to your options, change the IP to whatever the swr/net IP is, then go back to the main menu, hit multiplayer, hit network and bam.

Its all there
