That ... actually looks pretty cool. o.o

I've never played any of the Doom games, but that seems like it could potentially be a lot of fun. :D

Looks too much like doom 3 and DNF combined. Also these melee attacks will be more anyoing then fun after a while tongue.gif

I was checking it today and indeed is very cool. I loved the classic Super Shotgun and brutal melee attacks; the environment is also more hellish and I hope for more puzzles and enemies with a challenging AI.

My expectation is great on the new Doom. mindfuck.gif

The sound of hell is something nostalgic for anyone who has played Quake for example - also reminds me of the horrors of Diablo - so it was a great job in this regard; a great atmosphere so far.

I saw that presentation it certainly alot faster paced than Doom 3 (which is not a bad thing)

I also love that finishing move where Doomguy force feeds a Macubus its own heart resulting it t explode in a huge gorey mess.

No doubt the 'Brutal Doom' influenced the creation of the new Doom, after all a lot of players returned to play the Classic Dooms because of extra gore; at the end of the day it's like Doom 93 should have been, but in the DOS era was not possible to conceive 'so much gore'.

The release of the original Doom was the reason I bought my first computer - a 486 DX 66 with a 540MB hard drive, 8MB RAM, 14..4 modem, 2MB video card...

Never really been into Doom. Tried 3, but it was boring, wasn't able to run the older ones. Should I get this?

Posted by: The_Hunter 15 Jun 2015, 17:16

Thats abit of a difficult question since nostalgia is probably a factor for many people to like this game.

I guess in your case would probably in your best interest simple to wait for some reviews after its release smile.gif

Hmm, see some gameplay on YouTube of some classic Doom; you will not find in these games great graphics or advanced game mechanics, however you will find a fast and aggressive gameplay (something I consider quite unique until today), and an atmosphere that although relatively generic can also be deep and immersive in some degree.

So you have fun with the random killing and the hellish journey of 'Doom Guy'. wink.gif

To play the old games of the Doom series it must use the DOSbox that emulates DOS-based games.

So much inspires from Brutal Doom and pretty neat I8.gif

TBH to me best thing in this trailer was remix of original Doom theme that was going on in background.
Game,I mean what was shown of it is too much yellow/orange for my taste.Early to tell, but it looks really bland.

So the game came out last week on Friday and I've been having a blast with it.

It's fast, chaotic and really fun.
It's really refreshing to play a FPS that has no weapon limit, reloading, iron sights, health regeneration or cover mechanics to speak of and focuses entirely on mobility and shooting.

Speaking of Doom.

Amazing programming workarounds for the computers of the time.

This guy isn't ACTUALLY comparing a 2.5D sprite game like an old Zelda title with Doom, right? There were 3D titles on the NES (such as Elite, seen below), so no it was definitely not technologically impossible. The amount of upvotes on this video is breaking my spirit.

As for the actual thread topic, having seen good footage of the game, I'm actually inclined to get it (and maybe some older Doom titles too).

Posted by: Serialkillerwhale 17 May 2016, 16:15

Lets be honest, the first Doom really wasn't 3d. Everything was actually on a single plane and it was just clever smoke and mirrors to make a first-person POV of what was really a 2d game.

Posted by: The_Hunter 18 May 2016, 0:47

That's not really news to me however.

This becomes especially obvious if you use the level editor or modded any (fps) game from that era.

Posted by: Serialkillerwhale 18 May 2016, 15:04

You modded it?

SHOW US SHOW US SHOW US SHOW US.

Posted by: The_Hunter 21 May 2016, 19:38

Not Doom specifically but i did mod Duke Nukem 3D.

The Build engine and Doom engine are very similar in what they can and can't do.

Posted by: Svea Rike 22 May 2016, 15:18

So I got the game. I played it. And I loved it. First Wolfenstein two years ago, and now Doom. Man, Bethesda's really revitalizing the old-school FPS sub-genre.

Posted by: The_Hunter 22 May 2016, 15:36

You mean Machine Games and ID Software, Bethesda is only publishing them.

Posted by: Serialkillerwhale 22 May 2016, 23:04

Whelp. Time to upgrade my GPU so I can play Doom.

Man that just sounds wrong

I'm yet to finish Doom 3. A game known as "Return to Castle Wolfenstein" is more or less a replica of Doom 3 with a little bit different story line. It is because it is built on ID Software's Quake engine. If you played Doom 3, and if you have an opportunity, do not miss playing Return to Castle Wolfenstein. Its a game alike Doom and you are gonna love it! Albeit, the one posted above, the latest Doom version packs a punch and l definitely look forward to playing the game once I'm finished with Doom 3.
