After throwing around an idea during a discussion here in the forums (Armour Reserve Drop and Airborne in General) about having multiple conscript paradrops for the Russian faction, I decided to go ahead and mod the thing myself. rolleyes.gif

With 'Dawn of the Reds' tweak the game now allows the Russian player an additional paradrop of 12 conscripts per Airfield. 8Isov.gif









Main changes made by the Dawn of the Reds.
  • Added a conscript paradrop command button to the Russian Airfield
  • Increased the conscript paradrop power reload time from 3mins to 5mins

Requires: Rise of the Reds 1.802
Installation: Simply replace the "!BetaRotrINI.gib" file in your Zero Hour folder with the tweaked one.

Can you make it compatible with ROTR 1.85 when it is released ? And will this cause mismatches in Multiplayer ?

yes I'll update this for 1.85 when it comes out keke.gif . as as for the multilayer issue i honestly don't know. as long as both (or more) players have the tweak installed there wont be any problems. beyond that your guess is good as mine mellow.gif , since my total modding experience for Zero hour (or any game for that matter) has a long grand history of less than 24 hours. i sat down this morning determined to get this done (the multi paradrop-thing). and after spending most of the day staring at the screen studying the code ( in an 80's style montage mindfuck.gif ) i finally got a fairly decent grasp of how things work and came up with the tweak by dusk. a day well spent rolleyes.gif .

not really. i meant to have the airborne "red dawn" style invasion exclusively for the Russian faction. hence the name "Dawn of the Reds" 8Isov.gif

so far i haven't been able to find out whether if its possible or not to mod it so you can 'buy' special powers for cash. like i said its been less than 24 since i started to have a go at this. but ill look into it.

i also wanna state for the record that i don't want to change such a fine tuned and balanced game that is "RotR" too much. the devs have done such an amazing job making it what it is over the years and i like to keep it that way. all i wanted was to add a red dawn paradrop scenario into the game with in respectable parameters without seriously unbalancing the game-play. and im still getting there one step at a time sleep.gif .

right now im thinking about adding a additional power consumption penalty to the Russian airfields if the player chooses the Conscript Paradrop ability from the general powers, so to water down the feel of its OP-ness.


OH AND speeking of OPs, im also working on something just for the fun of it. its called .... wait for it .... the Tsar Bomba II duhsov.png .

This might just be a breath of fresh air.For all of you who dont know, 1.85 will change alot of stuff and probably reset the battlefield alot so theres no need to get used to the current stuff too deeply.Yes we have slain china buffs..

Development status update

OKies. ive made some serious progress with the TSAR BOMBA II. and by serious progress i mean its finished. completed. and works exactly as i want it to go BOOM! (im kinda surprised at the speed i managed to get it together myself). but on a more sader note, many many good Russian (digital though they maybe) scientists and troops died (horribly) during the development and testing of this Tsar Bomba II addon. comrades we salute you ( cue the "Gosudarstvenny Gimn " here). the Tsar bomb itself is going to be a totally unique weapon to ROTR and ill type in more info abt it later.

right now im working on improving the conscript paradrop tweak a little bit more.

and i will have them bundled together as an addon for ROTR 1.82 as Dawn of the Reds v2.0 ready for download on the next weekend. pimp_smile.gif

I am confused by the way you describe it's deployment -- does it have a huge collateral damage potential? or wipe the slate clean completely? or it's just a gega nuke with a historical reference and an orkish name
