Im guessing we have all seen it the film where will smith kicks the aliens ass with a PC virus etc etc but anyway....
Roland Emmerich says Independence Day 2 will happen - but only if Will Smith returns. It's the first time the director has talked of a sequel since the original was released in 1996. Independence Day director, Roland Emmerich, says a sequel to the 1996 smash hit is likely to happen, having outlined a story with his writing partner, Dean Devlin. However, the pair insist the movie will not go into production until the original's star, Will Smith, is brought on board. "Dean Devlin and I are still set to make a sequel likely because we've found some sort of idea and we approached Fox, and Fox has not quite figured out how to incorporate Dean's and my deal, and Will's deal," explained Emmerich. He further elaborated on Will Smith's inclusion, insisting that his presence was of the utmost importance. "Will wants to do it in some sort of a package they can live with. So it's just been in negations now since forever, and naturally Fox says "Why don't you do it without Will Smith?" I said Will is essential for us, for this movie and actually for the audience too. "And, so, it's in limbo and lately the studios are fighting. Like gross players, and Will is a gross player and is probably the only gross player right now who's worth his gross. So we'll see what happens. I would love to do it.." Independence Day was released in 1996 and made an astonishing $817m worldwide. It broke numerous records, including the opening weekend take of Jurassic Park. It was Will Smith's first big-budget mega-hit, and was a spring board for a career that has since made over $2.5 billion dollars in ticket sales. I would not mind tbh if there was a sequel i liked the film and think it would be an awesome movie so what do you guys think??. |

IMO they could even skip on Will Smith if they wanted to.

Seriously? Independence Day? After almost fourteen years, they're actually considering a sequel to this silly, hyper-patriotic popcorn War of the Worlds to be let loose on our depressing, post-911, recession-struck world, but ONLY if they can get Will Smith who starred in so many BETTER movies since then? I mean...sure, the special effects were pretty impressive at the time but CGI can only get you so far. The rest is just pompous and silly. And seriously, why friggin' Independence Day of all things? They must be running out of original ideas, so they just dig out an old movie that used to be the dog's bollocks more than a decade ago and put millions of dollars into making an unnecessary sequel. What's next, Back to the Future 4, Ghostbusters 3, Wargames 2, John Carpenter's The Thing 2, Jurassic Park 4, Beverly Hills Cop 4 or - god forbid - DIE HARD FIVE!?

Die hard rules, only the guy is too old. A new transporter film, one to make the atrocious Transporter 3 be forgotten, would be nice though. -------------------- |

``Why would they make an anti-USA movie?´´
That's actually something Hollywood and by extension, a lot of (read: many but not all) American movie viewers need to understand: Just because a movie is not primarily about Americans doesn't mean it's against them. Seriously, why is it so hard for Yanks to sympathise with protagonists who aren't Americans? |

Funnily enough some conservatives think that Hollywood is corrupting the nation with communist anti-American liberal bias.

Hollywood is in the USA. Why would they make an anti-USA movie? Watch some independent film if you're tired of the AMERIKA F YEAH stuff I find French movies in particularly to be generally well filmed. Brazilian movies aren't scared to show what is bad about my country and this doesn't make them anti-patriotic either. Watch City of God or Elite Squad sometime. -------------------- |

Hollywood is in the USA. Why would they make an anti-USA movie? You'd be surprised...Seen any movies about Iraq/Afghanistan/War on Terror lately (among others made by Hollywierd these days)? Of course you haven't, they're all ham-fisted propagandist crap that lost big at the box office. About ID2...this is quite odd. What the heck is it going to be about? Methinks Roland/Emmerich has run out of ideas. -------------------- "No bastard ever won a war by dying for his country. Two sequels? I do not share the hate you guys have about the first movie but admittedly, its one of the few Sci-fi movies with a real ending, leaving little questions unanswered (unless you go look for them).
That could make this movie as lame and fail as Transformers 2. -------------------- |

Oh great another America centrist movie. Yea because a Brazil centrist movie would be real fucking awesome. The second independence day should involve Russia and/or China fighting the aliens instead because there aren't enough movies about their growing military power. I would love to see the PLA kicking some alien ass. -------------------- |

At least BRIC centred movies would be original and interesting, not just a generic "AMERICUH FUCK YEAH" movie like what perverts 90% of movies nowadays.
On a related note, I actually like Bollywood. -------------------- |

Yea because a Brazil centrist movie would be real fucking awesome. Indeed, man. If one of those starships hovered over a favela, it would be shot down in seconds. Quite a short movie. If they do manage to fire its main weapon though, even better. My tax money would be better spent elsewhere. -------------------- |
