SWR Productions Forum _ Theatre of War _ Aircraft with multiple types of weapons

Posted by: TheViking92 10 Feb 2020, 3:02

Hello! how are you?

I want to make a "bomber-fighter" aircraft use 2 types of weapons without interfering with each other.
I would like to know:

1st) has anyone else tried to place 2 or more types of weapons on airplanes?

2nd) how do I do it?

1. Yes
2. You can't

Why?

Because the devs never added that functionality to the game engine.

Actually, it could be done. Successfully in part only, however. For example, the Berkut has 3 weapons. Air attack autocannon and ground attack autocannon, which are separated in the files, and air-to-air missiles.

It depends on which roles you wanna give to the weapons. For example, if you give Berkut's air-to-air missiles to the Sokol, and put them on guard mode over an area, they will fire their ground attack missiles and then keep circling above the area, doing nothing, because they still have their air-to-air missiles (unless an air unit comes along, in case of which they will attack the air unit and then go back to the airfield).

On the other hand, if you give them an air guard button and put them on air guard mode, they will not attack ground units. And even if they fire all of their air-to-air missiles, they will keep circling above an area, regardless of the fact they might have ground units in range, because air guard affects air units only and because they still have their ground attack missiles.

Yes, this bug is why it is not possible. Whatever advantage you can gain from doing this is negated by the fact that your planes will act derp 90% of the time and get shot down.

Might as well make separate dedicated aircraft.

Exactly. Which already exists in the form of Berkuts and Sokols.

@TheViking92

Your best bet is to use multipurpose missiles, like those used by the Raptor. And it's much easier to code.

yes!! this is the problem,
the plane is circling until it throws all the missiles or bombs it poses
