SWR Productions Forum _ SWR Comments Box _ Allow standard users to run Shockwave

Posted by: Shmuel 29 May 2016, 12:34

Hi. I am setting up a game room a and am installing shockwave on all the systems. My problem is that "ShockWaveLauncher.exe" needs admin rights to run and we do not want to give the kids access to administrator password. Is there anyway to get the game running without the need of administrator approval?
Thank you so much for this great mod!

UPDATE!
Got it working in the end but had to scumble to a 3rd party tool but it is portable so thats cool and really works well (tested on windows 10pro x64)

Thanks for the link but I do not want to allow the kids to have administrator access to the computer. I need to be able to run shockwave from a standard user account.

just assign the admin privileges to that program, u dont have to give em access to the hole thing.

Earlier you said you do not want to give the kids the *administrator password* so I found out a link which does exactly that but now you are saying you do not want to give the admin privileges or attributes to the kids, let alone the password! I don't see how that would work if you look forward for the kids to play a game which requires admin rights on their computer workstations.

The original Generals did not require admin privileges. I do not want to give the kids access to an admin account on the computer. I posted here because I do believe the mod itself does not require admin privileges to run in single player mode. I think because of the TAP adapter that the mod adds the admins required admin privileges now.......

Perhaps, only the developers would know the solution. Or probably ask the_Hunter or a Project Leader about it! Possibly someone can provide you with a workaround!

I'll try to figure out a solution that doesn't require admin privileges on startup. We had a "ask for admin when launching the game"-solution before but that didn't worked as needed.
