While I have enjoyed the mod immensely, it always bothered me that you could only pick one ECA protocol. Sure it makes sense for multiplayer, but I want to mess around against the AI without having parts of the faction limited.

I figure that it wouldn't be too hard to edit the INI to remove the build limit on research centers, letting me take one protocol upgrade for each. After downloading FinalBig, I changed the maxsimultaneousoftype to 3 for research centers, and 1000 for Frank Jaeger while I had the program open. After that, ROTR would not launch and give a serious error.

I figured I must have done something wrong so I undid the changes, but the serious error issue remains. I could reinstall, but I would like for my edits to go through and at the very least would like ROTR to work again. Does anyone have any information as to why this could happen and how to fix it?

If its any help, the debug log file ends with

ASSERTION FAILURE: Weapon AirF_AuroraBombDetonationWeapon not found!

I actually tried to do something similar- and it didn't work either. I replaced the modified .ini file with my backup- because after reverting the changes, it still didn't work. Your best bet to get the thing to work (short of reinstalling) is to get someone to send you their base .ini file. Also, in the future. make a backup of any of the files you plan to modify. No offense, but I thought that making backups was SOP...

If you tell me which file you modded, and which version of ROTR you're playing, I'll see if I can upload a backup of my file for you.

In future I recommend using Git Version Control. This will let you go back and forth between INI file versions. There is a gazillion resources on how to use it since it's used by all programmers. A small hidden file in the Generals directory stores the backup data for the INI files but this hidden file causes no problems.

Just remember to learn how to only version control the .ini files and not the entire installation. I think the command is "git add *.ini".

Git requires some learning but it really is the most powerful, fast and reliable option. No more creating folders "Version 2 with X Y and Z". Do all your backing up inside the folder where the INI data is. It's also space-efficient in since file changes are stored (delta-compression).

I was able to fix the game after a re install of the game and mod. I tried to edit the files again and got it to work without issue. It was harder than I thought to get the protocols working the way I want but I was able to add extra build options to upgraded research centers and got it to work.
Thank you to everyone for helping me with the issue.
