I think it happens when you modify one of the files found in the Command and Conquer Generals Zero Hour Data located in My Documents. Remove the files and see what happens. Note: These files are not removed when the game is uninstalled. -------------------- |

It's usually caused by a corrupted game.dat, it's the game's copy protection working.
Uninstall, delete the Zero Hour folder (make sure you have copies of your mods!) in Program Files and do a full repair install. -------------------- |

I used to get that error too. I think it happens when you modify one of the files found in the Command and Conquer Generals Zero Hour Data located in My Documents. Remove the files and see what happens. Probably the MapCache.ini in the said folder's map section may have been screw'd up, hence in the file's lines : CODE ; FILE: C:\Documents and Settings\[user name]\My Documents\Command and Conquer Generals Zero Hour Data\Maps\MapCache.ini ///////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// ; This INI file is auto-generated - do not modify ; ///////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// As Alias said the Game.dat or the other files, other than the BIGs, may have been corrupted. Just uninstall, delete both the Zero Hour and the Command and Conquer Generals Zero Hour Data (backup your custom maps, screenshots, replay and save files, and the stats/presets [the INIs -- Skirmish, SkirmishStats, Network, Options, WorldBuilder] before doing so!) folder, make clean reinstall, and see what happens. -------------------- "Not in mood...go away..." It's the game.dat and nothing else.
All this is is the game's copy protection, I've seen it many, many, times. -------------------- |

Can I just use the repair option or the full reinstall?
