They appear sinewy and put me in mind of Hell in art depictions.

The pictures are from a cloudspotting site I dont think they would fake things.
It's known as an 'asperatus' cloud. The picture here is of course the most sensational because it has the light of sunset inside it. Here is another one, without the light effect: -------------------- |

I'm afraid I'm a sceptic to this. It all looks like 3-D Renders/Photoshop work.
Until I see it with my own eyes I won't believe it. -------------------- |

Trippy clouds indeed.
Also I wouldn't bank on actually finding one to prove it's existence but what I can tell you is that using google image seems to be proof enough. -------------------- SWR Co-Lead | Texture Artist | Modeler | Level Designer | Fan of all things Awesome |

I can see where you're getting at, really, but they likely are reality.
Zoomed out image of the clouds. More offworldly stuff, the Australian Morning Glory cloud: Moving about 300 meters above the ground at 60 km/h, glider pilots across the world travel to a remote place in Australia to go ''Cloudsurfing'' on this strange phenomenon. If you want to read a story about it, go here This site is also the source of the first image, really good reads and pictures there.
