SWR Productions Forum _ Rise of the Reds _ Russian helicopters (fix)

Posted by: Wimpex 13 May 2017, 10:05

Hi guys! Ive noticed that russian helicopters can not to take on board vehicles. There is 3 helicopters - two of them can take soldiers, but why both can do that, but any of them can not transportate vehicles.

Please, fix this somehow for balance.

Posted by: {Lads}RikerZZZ 13 May 2017, 10:37

No.

Fuck off

Russian tanks being transported by helicopters......that's gonna be a really bad news.

What is the balance issue if I may ask?

No need to be this rude...

The helicopters cannot transport vehicles exactly for balance reasons. Russia is designed to be slow.

Posted by: SoraZ 13 May 2017, 13:05

Rik, that wasn't exactly the best possible reaction there.

Anyway, the answer is no. We have fairly strict plans and a vision on how we want this mod to work, and unless something is just not viable, we don't change these plans radically. Airtransport for Russian vehicles would be awful since they are already very powerful and, with the Industrial Plant in tow, also very price-effective, so only their fairly low speed remains as a limiting factor. Removing THAT with airtransport would entirely break the faction.

Also, I have to remind you that you broke the rules with this suggestion, and have to remind you again to read them. Please do so, and have a nice day.

Posted by: Knjaz. 13 May 2017, 13:44

lol, current Russia's gunship roster is already an anomaly design-wise in that it's entirely non-generic. But even for Orlov such mobility would be total overkill and imba. Nothx.

Remind me which faction can transport tanks across the map by default? Yes thats the gla

Allright which one can do it with transports?
USA?

Doesnt USA need something for it....say a certain Generals power called Air mobility?
Even if a Starlifter transport can only carry tanks, not Infantry.
Also generally how many can it carry? Seven? Seven tanks? With what? A build limit of two?

So you want russia to have a helicopter or one of the two that can transport infantry to carry tanks.
Unless you want to have either helicopter with build limits...Thats not going to work
Also you need to have the helicopters locked by a generals power too...or its not going to work
Oh and they need to loose their capability to transport infantry, even if both helicopters that can are general exclusive I think.

Basically...Russia is not ment to fly, You dont see Bears that fly you see Eagles
Plus air mobility is overrated

But Dragons and Manticores don't fly here, even though they supposed to have wings......

Also: Open joint-stock company "Khabarovsk Airport"

I guess I shouldn't even mention Tu-95 here happy.gif

But seriously, I agree that Russia shouldn't have any measures for vehicle's aerial transportation. Their tanks are very tough, have highest damage per shot, and IMHO have quite too fast ROF, and there are two things holding them from doing a total mayhem to you: high price (which can be lowered with Industrial plant and proper sec eco) and horrible mobility. Giving Russia any means to transport tanks is like giving a kick in the pants to game balance.

On a side note, is it technically possible to make helicopters transport only certain vehicles, while making it unable to carry any other (Example: making Hunchback able to carry one BMP\Hummvee\Bloodhound\Technical\Scorpion\Buggy and other light vehicles, while making it unable to carry anything "heavier", like tanks, quads etc. IMHO, it could be a unique feature for Orlov's Hunchback variant).
I know it sounds like a suggestion (well, it is too obvious), but if it is possible to do, then maybe someone will make a proper unofficial addon with such thing.

Posted by: Hanfield 13 May 2017, 16:43

You can only allow/restrict transport with KindOfs, which are extremely broad [INFANTRY, VEHICLE, AIRCRAFT, etc] and hard-coded, so we can't add any more.

Posted by: 3rdShockArmy 13 May 2017, 16:44

Well, there are Vehicles and Heavy Vehicles in the code. If you put forbidden for Heavy ones, than any vehicle with that tag in the code can't be transported (Overlords and Sentinels are registered as Heavy AFAIK). But this would create a mess, because anything "heavier" than a BMP/similar tier stuff would have to be registered as a Heavy Vehicle. I tried it, when I gave a Hunchback the possibility to carry vehicles and, while being fun, it gets boring after some time, because it's super easy to win.

Talk about being nice- but I thought suggestions being a no-no was written somewhere in the pinned posts? I thought I read it there somewhere- I knew that even before joining the forums... So I kind of understand Riker's sentiment.

Its written in the FAQ of both the rotr forum and the swr forum rules.

Also id just like to clarify that my tone was more of a light hearted "shoo, go away" rather than an aggressive statement. so comments like:

Is bullshit and the mods know better than that.
