Ive been reading ROTR lore lately (or rather, re-reading) and I was really interested in the Shocktrooper cameo (the button image, whatever your supposed to call it.)
In the photoshop image, the gas mask looks Israeli, (for the most part anyway), the vest looks like a typical black SWAT type vest, mustard colored BDUs, but the weapon remains a mystery to me. Did whoever make this cameo use any weapon for its base? It doesn't resemble any modern weapon. Also, about the image its self, can anyone shed some light on its creation? Any custom pieces you guys had to make in photoshop? -------------------- |

It was butchered of several images and combining certain parts.
The weapin is simply a 3d Model that i downloaded from a free model site and then modified to suit my purpose. This was the original source picture: -------------------- |

Not really a lore related question, more like a cosmetics question to me
But yes, most cameos that are produced are typically used from different sources to create the finished product. This is such an example. Not like we go out and create a entire wardrobe for a cameo now do we? We're not EA after all. -------------------- SWR Co-Lead | Texture Artist | Modeler | Level Designer | Fan of all things Awesome |

Cool stuff.
I thought the weapon was taken from the Renegade sniper rifle. |

One last question, where was the vest image taken from?

Using cross-teching to put Shocktroopers into Bunkerlords yields some interesting results too.

Shocktroopers were one of the first planned iconic Russian infantry that comes to mind. The original concept had a plasma gun and the cameo was similar to the one you see now. This was one of the unit Comrade was really looking forward to, so me and Hunter got together and prepped up a Spotlight Edition update featuring this unit as a birthday present to Luis.
The concept lore wise behind the Shocktroopers that they are ultra nationalistic soldiers, with their own code of honor, they are almost machine like in execution and efficiency and they believe that a battle to be fought is a battle already won and they will ensure that happens at ANY cost. They revel in warfare and get enraptured in the brutality and slaughter around them while having a very dark sense of humor. -------------------- |

From what I've gathered, they're basically like the Space Marines from the 40k-universe. Heck, their rifles are essentially bolters! It's not a surprise that Luis just loves them to death.

Or maybe Traitor Guards version. Something like this picture.

I totally agree. Considering that their Rifle uses rocket-like ammunition, it's pretty much a bolter. -------------------- CASOJIN

I'm happy you didn't actually use plasma weapons for them in the end (the bullet variety like in Halo, as streamers are ok).

Plasma rifles would have been a bit over the top / too futuristic for what is essentially heavy assault infantry, whether they're supposed to be super-elite or not. It's just not feasible.
Those micro rocket rifles on the other hand do have a basis in reality, though. The US military tested a series of prototype weapons called 'gyrojet' in the 60s. Their bullets had small rocket engines instead of conventional propellants, meaning that the projectile would accelerate over time instead of going full speed like a normal bullet when the firing pin hits the primer. This has the advantage of creating less recoil and noise (although there was still an audible sound when the bullet went super-sonic). Unfortunately, the time it took to reach full speed also reduced the overall power of the projectile and the intricate micro-rockets were more susceptible to dirt and mishandling which took a toll on their flight characteristics and reliability. At the end of the day, the gyrojet rifles simply failed to offer significant advantages over conventional fire arms and ended up as expensive collector items. |

The gyrojet ammunition cost is another disadvantage in the long run.
