Makes me wonder: If snow's gonna play a part in their gameplay, will the inevitable expansion pack add an American faction and a campaign based around the Battle of the Bulge?
Also, since the Eastern front was quite heavy on urban fighting as well, maybe they expand on the garrison mechanics and allow you to move units around inside structures so there's actual in-door fighting. Here's hoping they keep the base building though; I've gotten rather tired of all these modern high-APM games where you just have to requisition your reinforcements out of nowhere on the basis of some odd point system. |

I really hope that this game comes at least close to the original. I think base building is here. They say that they talked about moving towards a DOW2 approach an decided against it to keep the CoH essence.
Actually snow seems to play a large part according to the PC Mag article. Snow has depth, meaning tanks can get bogged down and infantry moving slowly. -------------------- |

I honestly cant wait for this game. this series is my second favorite RTS (first being Starcraft and third being generals.) there is one thing though, ive heard alot of things about THQ being in money trouble so im guessing this is their way to get some. you think itl have an influence on how the game turns out? and whether it does or not. aside from technical advantages they seem to be adding what with snow and whatnot. Do you guys think they might not make as much considering eastern front mod is for the first game? i mean sure there are no campaigns for the mod but unless they somehow step it up im pretty sure a lot of people are just gonna get the cheaper one with the mod rather than a full priced game with from what ive read possibly only 2 factions to play as? now i know its still early to say anything bad about it nor am i saying its going to be bad at all ill probably buy it anyways but im just thinking ahead. what do you guys think?
on another note...its been to long since ive been here |

One of the two things that currently intrigue me about this is the time span. Is this only going to cover initial part of the German invasion up to the pivotal battle of Stalingrad, i.e. the phase of the Eastern front that is best known for the nasty winter battles, or are they going all the way from '41 to '45, ending with the battle of Berlin? If so, how are they going to represent the changes in equipment and technological developments that occured in these years? This isn't like the US and British campaign in the first game which covered events that happened over the span of a few weeks/months in a more limited theatre of operations, y'know. Also makes me wonder what the overall tone of the campaign is going to be like, considering that the Eastern front was, by comparison, a lot more vicious and infamous for war crimes on both sides.

Barbarossa too Berlin maybe? there's actually a turn based strategy game called that.
This and WiC 2 (I wish) would probably top the list of strat games for me, oh and that other game...whats it called? Rise of the Reds or something I think. This post has been edited by TheSpudd: 14 May 2012, 23:54 |

Now that you mention that...My perfect military-focused strategy game would have the detail and micro level of CoH, the upwards scale and scope of WiC and the setting of RotR. That'd be swell, albeit sadly impossible. |

That's a great screenshot you found there. I'm intrigued as to how the gameplay is going to be affected by the different terrain types, particularly frozen surfaces. I don't think vehicles should
break in and die instantly, but it'd be interesting if heavy tanks and artillery could smash the ice to the point of causing units to get 'stuck' in the water and suffer noticeable movement penalties. |

Hmm interesting. I wonder if the actual game is also going to be that explicit about that whole Hitler/swastika thing, both of which were left out in the original game, but may be a bit more appropriate here given that there
was a much deeper ideological hatred between the two sides of the Eastern front. In any case, I'll probably get myself an imported version, something that I should have done for the original game -much- sooner as well. |

I'm really interested as to how they're going to depict the technological changes that happened over the course of the four years of fighting at the Eastern front.
Also wondering how much of that "truth of war" premise will be represented in the story cos there are a few elephants in the room with this historical scenario. |
