Disclaimer: This isn't a suggestion post. Even if suggestions were allowed I wouldn't suggest something so bonkers. These units are more of a thought experiment.

Mobile War Factory

I thought to myself that it would be cool (and insane) if the Russians had a Mobile War Factory as a super unit. This massive vehicle would be able to crawl around the map and build basic vehicles (BMP, Kodiak etc) sort of like how the Optimized Vehicle Production upgrade lets a Chinese War Factory build basic vehicles only.

I've been curious as to if this is even possible in the Sage Engine. The first problem is how would you build the MWF? How I'd try and do it is make the MWF a "building" and when the "building" has been constructed it spits out the MWF the same way a newly build supply yard spits out a free supply collector.

Things would get interesting with the pathfinding, because it seems the SAGE engine pathfinding does not like having to find winding paths. It seems the pathfinding engine was designed on the assumption the maps would be fairly open. With a stationary War Factory the engine can just mark the area of the War Factory as impossible to move through. With a Mobile War Factory I'm guessing pathfinding could get quite a lot more expensive when a blob of units needs to get around the MWF.

Then there is the issue of building units on the fly. When US units build drones, the drones fly around so they don't need to drive out of the unit. It's clear that you can script a unit to spawn other units. However having a ground unit spawn ground units is a bit tricky. If I recall correctly no transport unit unloads passengers while moving. So you'd probably have to make the MWF "deploy" to make units, which makes it less effective (but still more awesome) than just sending a dozer to build a War Factory where you need it.

Super-BMP

The name is misleading. What I have in mind is a giant transport that carries tanks and lets them shoot out fireports. This unit would have a Sentinel tank gun and Warden missiles for defense. Any armoured unit below a Golem or Sentinel could fit in it.

Now, does the SAGE engine support this kind of madness? Maybe.

The ECA have that Vehicle Digout for defensive purposes, but that's probably quite not the same as a fireport transport. A Vehicle Digout probably anchors the vehicle to it so the vehicle can't move.

I am not sure how the SAGE engine handles fireport transports. I suspect vehicles won't work, especially ones with secondary weapons. The infantry were probably hardcoded to work with fireports.

It would be interesting to hear what facts and limitations the devs can reveal about the SAGE engine.

Latter just needs a transport module with a line that allows the passengers to fire

Oh that's way more straightforward than I expected. Thanks for the info.

Bitch slapping SAGE since 2003

The first already exists in a more primitive form in shape of the Field Quarters which is a mobile barracks.
You could easily modify this mechanic to work for vehicles.

Visually it could be something like this:

That's good to know if I ever decide to make a "super-unit" mod.
