SWR Productions Forum _ Rise of the Reds _ Seth's ROTR missions

Posted by: Seth 14 May 2014, 17:38

Hello ROTR fans,

Since everyone in this forum is going crazy over fan missions these days, I decided to share my own.
I've been mapping for quite a while now, but I originally never intended to upload them anywhere, which may lead to some drawbacks:

1. They could be sometimes unfair in a way that it isn't overly clear what to do, since I was usually the only one playing them, obviously knowing exactly what to do. In that case please inform me to improve on the information given during the course of the mission.

2. As I'm not a player who performs 5000 actions per minute, most of them are rather slow-paced or downright easy. So if you're looking for a hardcore challenge, this is probably not your place to go.

Now for the missions themselves:

The Bear Strikes:

A Orlov style Russian mission (lots of infantry and helicopter use). Your objective is to raid an ECA naval base in Greece early in the war.

 The_Bear_Strikes__ROTR_.zip ( 148.66K ) : 170

Aral Sea Meltdown:

This mission takes place on the GLA 05 map from the original Generals, since I absolutely love the setting of the Aral Sea. Your job as Russia is to eradicate all GLA troops that have defeated the US and are using old Soviet-era chemicals against their enemies.

 Aral_Sea_Meltdown__ROTR_.zip ( 315.18K ) : 141

Pyong Boom:

A simple China vs. GLA mission, divided in three parts. Should be fairly easy.

 Pyong_Boom__ROTR_.zip ( 166.97K ) : 135

Unstable Alliance:

You play as GLA and try to induce war between China and Russia in order to overwhelm them both, while obviously being too weak to take on them both while they're allied.

 Unstable_Alliance__ROTR_.zip ( 187.56K ) : 141

Though they have been extensively tested, I am of course thankful for bug reports etc.

Have fun!

Seth

I am taking these missions, Thanks a lot. smile.gif

Greece is not part of the ECA, just a heads up.

I really like the final GLA mission; provoking a war, I always love playing the chessmaster.

Well, neither are Germany, South Korea, Pakistan, Japan, Djibouti, Panama, UK, etc. parts of the US of A (they've got plenty of bases there). If I was ECA commander-in-chief and I had Russia (Black Sea Navy), GLA (North Africa), unstable Middle East and Suez canal to worry about I would DEFINITELY acquire a naval base in Greece either by money, diplomatics or force! 8llaniflip.gif

Seth, I am mighty impressed by your missions. Thank you very much!!! wub.gif I was a bit too quick on "The Bear Strikes": I took over the two closest ECA islands BEFORE I took out the Wotans which meant that a sizeable amount of my forces went to heaven thanks to the FOAB strikes...

Wait, what? One, Germany and the United Kingdom are part of the ECA. You and everyone else knows that. I'm sure the ECA have no military bases in the United States and the ECA are so isolationist and self-centered they wouldn't go near Greece, especially not with their fascist government and all. Plus Greece would most likely not allow the Europeans a naval base, either.

Posted by: The_Hunter 15 May 2014, 22:18

Gave all of them a quick glance (don't have time to play through them to the fullest right now) but they all look realy well made and thought out.

Good stuff!

I think you misunderstood what he was saying (took me a few read-overs to get it). He was comparing the current US bases in all of those countries to ECA influence in ROTR. Though I agree with you, ECA would not touch Greece because it's too...well...Greecey... Besides, they have many other places they can stick decent Mediterranean naval bases, chief among those being Italy.

Why would he compare that, that is ridiculous. ECA wouldn't use American bases in countries that aren't part of their alliance, obviously.

Thank you all for the nice feedback wub.gif

C'mon guys, just play them... I didn't think all -that- much about canon while making it, I just wanted a Greece setting ;-)

As the public seems to like my missions, expect 10+ Shockwave missions to be uploaded today.

Additionally, I am currently working on a mission that involves two of the most liked elements by the ROTR fanbase: Stealthy Frank Jaeger infiltrating Russian bases and lots of trains.

Those are some really nice missions man, very good job

Posted by: Comr4de 17 May 2014, 2:45

Excellent work good sir, had at it with a few of them, they're all quite nice; my only gripe is some of the cinematics but that's tricky to begin with - they have that initial CnC feel to them and expands further. Love it. I8.gif

With a bit of direction you could even do some official stuff I'd say aw.gif

May I ask you what kind of "gripe" you mean? I'd guess it's too few camera movement, in this regard I am just a bit lazy...

(And yes, I know about the fact that in "The Bear Strikes" that damn f******g Skyshield is just too dumb to fire on the Berkuts and I am completely clueless about that. That is my major gripe with that...)

On side note: I would be honored to do some official stuff, being SWR fanboy since Shw 0.93 blush.gif

FOAB the chem storage to death... hmmm something tells me i did it all totslly wrong but had fun doing it! I must say, the quality in these maps and scripting as well, blows even my best out of the water. bravo!

Yeah, I took the same approach ... right up the middle wreaking havoc with Boris [I don't need no schtinkin' base and support units, I'm a *HERO*] ... completely missed the "don't let the chem trucks escape" directive ... so I *HAD* to play it again so I could kill the chem trucks.

I fluked by sending all my new tanks up to that bridge, damn good thing the golem is amphibious too! that truck was about to break through lol

Unzip to your C&C Generals Zero Hour Data/Maps directory. Each download, once unzipped, should create its own subdirectory under 'Maps'.

In the game go to Skirmish and bring up the list of maps. These missions should show up at the top of the list of available maps.

Under Official or Unofficial category? I remembered Black Sheep is counted as Unofficial.

The maps would appear in the Unofficial Maps section (missions are first in the list)

Well, I compared real-life USA and in-game ECA. I hope that clarifies a bit.

New stuff to play:

Foreign Shores - I made this mission back in the day to celebrate the inclusion of navy in 1.7whatever. You as USA have to prepare an invasion in an African supply zone, then execute it. Your reinforcements in this mission are limited, but you can bombard everything with battleships, so it shouldn't be a big problem.

Have fun!

Posted by: Zarbuza 21 May 2014, 14:41

Pardon for beeing noob, but how can I install these?

Posted by: Seth 21 May 2014, 15:07

just put them in the normal maps folder and select them from the unofficial map tab in skirmish screen

Posted by: MedX 21 May 2014, 15:10

Hope these missions get an 1.85 upgrade. smile.gif Nice stuff

Posted by: Seth 21 May 2014, 19:04

ofc they'll get one when it's released.

Well, I played that one 'wrong', too. I used Burton to clear out all of the GLA before I got to the grads ... that took a looooong time to do without the help of those scout drones that showed up way too late for me! wacko.gif

Guess I'll *have* to play it again but this time (try to) follow the story line, eh ...

'nother good mission. Thanks Seth!

Posted by: Re_Simeone 23 May 2014, 18:04

I've actually tried couple of missions, they are pretty much a demo, but promising demo.
Keep it up.

Posted by: Streanger 2 Jun 2014, 18:26

What you think concerning optimization of some already enough old, not less interesting mod - missions? Such for example, as Guantanamo Bay: Operation Cuban Freedom, Bushehr: Operation Partisans' Challenge. it would be interesting to see their compatible with ROTR the version.

Posted by: Seth 2 Jun 2014, 23:11

Well, I do some stuff like that.

BUT: I didn't make them, so I have absolutely no right to release anything from that tongue.gif

Posted by: five star general 23 Aug 2014, 21:39

Awesome missions i make them to but i am to eager to play them quickly so they are not as detailed as yours smile.gif.
Will you make more missions?

I'm no doubt doing "The Bear Strikes" wrong - building an ECA force to fight the ECA, Wotans and Solaris Relays and all... But it was really fun!

A couple other ways ...

1 - at beginning of game use mishka to ferry a rocket troop around the center and NW islands so he can take out all of the wotans; build a couple helos (@ helipad in SW corner of map) to ferry troops to NW island; getting across the bridge is a bit of a pain in the arse but doable if you use paradrops to soften up the east side of the bridge

2 - use mishka/rocket-troop to take out wotans, man-up the emtpy russian vehicles in the lower/center and far SW islands; capture naval factory to build hovercraft; take over islands just north and NW of naval factory

3 - take out the wotans and air defenses on central/central-east islands (just north/NW of naval factory) so as to give your paradrops direct, unhindered access to the eastern side of the ECA's base; sacrifice paradrops to take out enemy airfield and power plant; use hovercraft to bring heavy units up into the eastern side of ECA base (or continue to use paradrops to chip away at ECA facilities) [NOTE: AI doesn't appear to put much effort into rebuilding what you destroy]

4 - capture the solaris array on NW island, build a few power plants, wreak havoc with the solaris array ... or not ...

Several ways to slice-n-dice this mission for a good bit of fun ...

One of the troubles is, if a Wotan is left alive into the last phase and destroyed too late, the FOABs almost certainly would hit some friendlies. So Seth, is there any way to make it 3 GPs on demand instead of scripted hits?

Yeah, had that happen to me ... had already taken over the central islands (N and NW of the naval shipyard) ... was over in the NW taking out a wotan I had missed earlier ... came back to find all my units were gone/dead/vaporized ... oooooooohhhhhhhhh, craaaaappppp ... that's why I should take out *ALL* of the wotans first!!! ;-)

*meh* ... I wouldn't worry about changing the mission ... live and learn ...

Posted by: Seth 5 Sep 2014, 10:48

In short: I'm not going to change that, since it is meant to be this style (take out AA, receive aerial boom).

But you can change it yourself, if you want to, it's really easy, you have to change only one script. Having a FOAB until the end makes taking out the main base ridiculously easy though.

Well, turning ECA units against themselves usually result in me having my own Solaris Array out of scratch in the first 20-30 minutes... sometimes two. I move into the central islands usuallt to build more of these, or a DZ.

Posted by: Seth 6 Sep 2014, 14:46

Fun fact: It was never meant to capture any ECA stuff but the Solaris Relay. I will disallow some build options in the next release.

If it can be captured and abused it will be captured and abused... to the most absurd degree possible. Since Tib Sun or even RA1.
Sorry to tell you, the Aral sea one is also abusable as a Boris-only ARPG challenge.
