Since beginning of this year i watch every stream of doomhammer and xattus and really appreciate the great work from the hunter and fellow developers.
So i would really like to give it a try myself too now. I've given up trying for my mac, because its way too complicated for me. So could somebody give advice for a noob?

What are the minimum pc requirements to play rise of the reds properly, also online with multiple players?
Also which windows version is best to run, for example 8.1 or 10?

Im thinking about buying atom intel stick for tv, is it possible to run rotr on this? It has 2gb working memory and 32gb emmc storage.
Here's a link; http://nl.hardware.info/nieuws/44935/passi...-atom-bij-nexxt

The original discs from generals and zero hour i have already, but is it better/easier to download version from internet?

Thank you in advance!

Just a random modder trying to give a helping hand.

Wineskinning a Windows install of ZH, installing ROTR up to it should work for singleplayer for a Mac - I'm running Linux here and I only have problems with SWR.net alone.

If you got Macbook Pre-2009 or earlier, you can forget about this.

However, if you have a newer Mac, I can send you a Bottle with everything in it, to make it works you need:

1. CrossOver 14 for Mac installed on El Capitan
2. Manually put the CD-keys to registry

Thanks for the reply acemaster, but its just too complicated with mac and i really want to play multiplayer online mainly. Im getting a device with windows next to my macbook, so which windows version is best for rotr and what would be requirements to run it smoothly and has the least work? (since i really don't know much about computers)

Maybe a stick or laptop, not sure yet thats why i ask this to you guys.. (its purely to play RotR on, so i don't care for other things it can do)

You're welcome Bobby. Mac can only play LAN game but not SWR.net.

64bits Windows 7/8.1 are all good for the game. Laptop with proper graphic card runs a bit better than integrated one, except Intel HD4000 or above.

You can also streamline the retail disc version in a folder with Patch files, so that you can install them all in one go instead of swapping discs.

64bit OS is better if you have more RAM and apply the 4GB patch. You can check out the discussion here.

For the computer stick, it's rather inconclusive; depends on your definition of how well it'll run or if it runs at all.

System Requirements
It's just hard to expect a low-end CPU coupled with 2GB RAM can perform well on 1080p, even for an old game like Zero Hour.

Hey Acemaster,

Im going to sell my macbook and buy a windows laptop. I've done a bit research, and think im going for the Dell xps 13.
The 'earlier' model has i5 processor, 8gb ram and 256 gb ssd and hd 5500 card in it with full hd non-touch screen.
For 150 euros more i could get the latest with same specs but with skylake processor and hd 520 card.(they're both from 2015) Whats your view on this?

The first one has windows 8.1, the latter windows 10. But i heard from a friend u could switch it back. Is 8.1 still better for the mod?
Also first one has mini display port, for my tv, and the latter thunderbolt.
Any suggestions? Right now i would prefer the cheaper one ofcourse ;-)

Thanks again for your time and effort!

erm yeah, ill put it this way.

intel core 2 duo 2ghz from 2006

and a intel q45 onboard chip set from 2008 can run this

4gb ddr3 ram

(my default specs)

operating system you just need windows xp or higher and ur fine.

that chipset is a load of rubbish and it can run the mod with everything maxed out.

Think u mean this one. Are there any people using this on windows 10 and have rotr working, also online with swr?

And if so, do i have to do anything special to watch for when installing?

Thanks for time and effort again! Hope i can play soon finally, cant wait!

Swr too, do i have to update this too or not? Do i have to put directconnect on or off?

Thx

direct connect is only for if u have port forwarded ur ports in your router, if u have not then just turn direct connect off.

as for the black stripes either side, i take it u have a widescreen monitor in which case this should help u.

For Full screen get Gentool.
And leave direct connect off.

Ok, it seems to be working. So i can go in lobby, but its still at 1.85 it appears, because i tried out single player and had units and stuff of 1.85, it crashed after say 15 min.

How do i correctly install 1.86 patch? I just followed the install process, do i have to do anything else?

Gentool installed and works, but i cant adjust screen settings.(in demo you could do widescreen, but was older version i believe) Is this possible though?

Update: I figured it out with gentools, just put resolution to highest. And man it looks fantastic!

Still only one hurdle, how to get 1.86 starting? :-(
