Is that the same Serbian/Yugoslav helmet or somethin' else? Its the war criminal helmet yeah, the yugoslav paramilitary helmet. Found out more about its origins. Belonged to a Serbian aligned paramilitary that operated on the Bosnian border; the guy who wore it deserted apparently. Why he deserted is anyone's guess but its probably seen some ugly war crimes, least whoever wore it before. Or they did ugly war crimes. One of the two. Heard it might've belonged to the unit called Vukovi's Vujaka but I took what was told to me with a grain of salt irregardless. So I don't really give it much respect due to that, I use it as a beer can holder most of the time for empties. This post has been edited by ComradeCrimson: 8 Mar 2016, 15:29 -------------------- |

Yeah. Well, a whole bunch of myths are constructed about Yugoslav War. Anyway, those helmets were pretty outdated at the time and most of Yugoslav Army had already replaced them with the (then) up-to-date equipment.

Yeah. Well, a whole bunch of myths are constructed about Yugoslav War. Anyway, those helmets were pretty outdated at the time and most of Yugoslav Army had already replaced them with the (then) up-to-date equipment. If you're referring to the atrocities, they aren't myths, they are recorded facts with clear cut evidence. But I'm not venturing onto the subject any further than that. The interesting thing about that war really is that there was a lot of surplus equipment, and the reason why it erupted so badly was because due to the mandatory conscription and military training Yugoslav citizens underwent, when all the various republics and nation states split apart nearly every adult was trained at least in some way, shape or form for combat. Its why you had so many paramilitaries in the first place as a lot of people were up in arms- and the old regime surplus was a good way to arm one-self. The model of helmet is based off of the old early cold war model of helmets, a helmet that was based off of a WW2 one. Tito's regime utilized them, and the evidence of how I can tell this one was a definite paramilitary one is the following: It has a plastic support inside, which betrays its more modern and not from World War 2, there is no insignia's on it whatsoever on the exterior, and I can tell it was used in combat as there is various scrape marks and other things that would occur with small arms fire. Likely a pistol if I had to guess, something small like a 9x18 bullet or something because the odd dent it has is noticeable, but there's no penetration. I dunno if these helmets would really stop higher powered rifles to be honest. It seems of pretty crap construction, it's not that thick and it doesn't cover your head that well. It seems more designed for overhead shrapnel... peering around corners and walls would be really stupid with this thing too due to its shape. I can see why they modernized to be frank; and thinking on it more I can't really blame the guy for deserting if this is the quality of equipment he got. When you are facing SVD's, higher model AK's and even more modern weapons (at the time) and imported stuff from Iran and Russia like the incredibly rare AN 94- (which I highly doubt para's had access to as that's a really good rifle, usually intended for spec ops, at least back then)... trained or not I personally wouldn't bother fighting... especially if you are part of an invasion force, effectively. Home defense I suppose I could understand better but eh. I lack the nationalism that fueled that war. Not when you are facing state armies with more modern gear. There's a reason why paramilitaries get a crap reputation and its because they are crappy armed troops and well, guess who they target? People who aren't going to crush them in one swoop, at least directly. And its likely why a good portion of them turned to banditry and barbarism. Least that's my logic behind it and from what I've researched into the matter; mind not just saying Serbian para's were doing all the dirty shit either. Rag tags in general. What im real curious about is the state of weaponry in Ukraine right now; what they are using. I have heard varied reports on that. Edit: I'll continue this convo in the military talks thread if you want. This post has been edited by ComradeCrimson: 8 Mar 2016, 20:47 -------------------- |

Yeah it was a bit high level stuff for me but I enjoyed the presentations and had a lot of fun regardless, that's what matters. Let alone the fact that we also met up was worth it.

Me with some buddies. My then-girl from France. Great person. Too bad she had to leave. Another important person which is not a part of my life anymore, unfortunately. This post has been edited by 3rdShockArmy: 27 May 2016, 23:28 -------------------- |

Well, when I tried to post it the first time, it refused to resize the first pic and it refused to even post the other two, but I managed to work around it.
