SOMEWHERE IN FINLAND, CHRISTMAS EVE, 2047

Private Dmitry and his fellow squad mates were out on a frozen lake in cold Finland. Their rifles on their backs and vodka bottles in their hands. Since it was Christmas tomorrow they decided to break out of their camp and drink some booze, which was strictly forbidden by their commanding officer. Their smokes lit up and soon they were full and happy, with big smiles on their faces. However the festivities didn't last long as they heard a shot, and all of sudden one of Dmitry's comrades got shot! They ready their weapons and look around, but they can't see anything. Suddenly, another shot, and another comrade gets killed! And another one! Now Dmitry just dropped his rifle and ran towards the tree line, but alas, for he heard a shot and seconds later he was dead.

Reload, cock and fire. Those three words were the only words swirling inside Sniper Armo as he fired upon the Russians. That's probably all of them, he thought as he glanced at the dead bodies, lying in pools of blood on the crystal-clear ice. Armo was one of the many ex-army snipers who'd joined the resistance force in Finland. Even though many freedom fighters could assist him, he decided to do business alone. His brother had been killed when the Russians attacked Pudasjaervi Bridge up north, and he'd sworn to take revenge on the eastern foes. Armo got up and mounted his skies, carrying a large and heavy bag around his body. He continued to ski to his destination, which had been interrupted by the drunken laughter of the now-dead Conscripts. The evening was cold and the snow was falling as gently as a cat sneaking up on a mouse. Suddenly, he hears the sound of helicopter rotors in the distance. Armo quickly crouched underneath some bushes, and watched as a Hokum helicopter soared above him. He thought that the Conscripts little bailout had been discovered, and that he'd spared them the punishment they would've gotten by their commander. The very commander Armo was set to kill.

A tad later Armo was back on his skies and went forward. In the distance he could still hear the helicopter and faint voices of shouting Russians, probably wondering what the heck happened on the frozen lake. Armo was forced to take a large detour, because of many Russian scout units probably searching the forest now. He wound up at a train track, and he could see a steam engines smoke on the horizon. The train was coming in from the west, presumably a Russian POW train transporting just that; POW's. He waited a while and could soon see it. Yep, a Russian train it is. An E9-K type, if he was not mistaken. The very armored train used to transport POW's. He decided to help his fellow toverit and bail them out of it. As the train passed by, Armo dropped his heavy bag and hopped onto the side of a wagon. He opened the door which the foolish Russians had placed the lock on the outside, where any Finnish ex-army sniper could hop on during transit and free anyone inside. Inside where fellow resistance members, all captured as POW's. Even a civilian. Damn Russians probably thought he was a "suspicious bystander" again.

Armo opened and freed all POW's. Luckily he knew of a hidden resistance camp not far from their location where they could go. Armo himself continued to his destination. He picked up his heavy bag and skied through the chilly forest, soon wounding up at a lake. "Perhana" Armo said as he looked at the lake. He wasn't planning on crossing a lake, but he had to. He had lost too much time taking a detour and freeing POW's. Armo just hoped no Russian scouts were near, and definitely hoped none had a skilled sniper with them. Armo hurried across the lake, and at the center of the lake his fear came true; Russian scouts at the edge of the lake. "Posmotrite tam" the Russians shouted. Armo picked up the pace, for at the center of the lake he was as exposed as an albino moose in downtown Helsinki! Suddenly, he heard gunfire and soon bullets whizzed by. Armo ducked and covered behind a small log sticking up through the ice. He had to kill the Russians before more reinforcements arrived. Armo remembered what his boot camp teacher had told him: "If by any chance you are pinned down by 1 to 3 hostiles, wait until they reload, then take the shot!" Armo waited until the gunfire stopped, then quickly rose from behind the log and aimed. He saw two Russian Conscripts trying to reload their rifles in the freezing cold. He aimed and shot one in the head and quickly injured the other one in the arm. The injured one escaped through the trees, and would soon be back with help. Armo quickly got up and speeded away towards the other end of the lake.

Armo was already halfway through the forest when a Russian BMP arrived at the lake. Armo skied on and could soon see his destination: a vantage point looking down towards the Russian camp, where his target rested inside a warm tent with a cup of coffee in his hands. He skied up the hill leading to the point. When he arrived, he quickly lay down and readied his trusted rifle, which he'd nicknamed "Conscript Killer". He saw silhouettes in the largest tent; one was standing firm looking at the other who seemed angry. It was probably the enemy commander, angry at an officer for not finding him. Armo aimed at the commander's head. He held his breath, and took the shot. Unfortunately the commander quickly sat down in his chair, and the bullet missed him by just a few inches. Armo hurried to reload and re-aim, but suddenly a Hokum helicopter appeared behind him and unleashed a barrage of bullets at Armo's location. Armo rolled out of harm's way, but the helicopter strafed over him. Armo opened the large bag he'd been carrying all along, and revealed a .50 caliber anti-material rifle. He quickly folded out the bipod and aimed at the helicopter. One shot, one miss. Another shot, another miss. The helicopter drew closer, and began firing at Armo. Armo took a deep breath, and fired at the helicopters rotors. He missed, and aimed again. A bullet hit a tree which threw a huge piece of shrapnel in his foot, and Armo squeezed the trigger just as he flinched. He hit the helicopter pilot straight in the head, and the helicopter veered to the right, soon crashing among the trees. A blessing in disguise, it was.

But the blessing didn't last long, for Russian ground soldiers came closer to him, and he had an injured foot! Armo ripped off a piece of clothing and wrapped it around his injured foot. Armo hurried down the slope of the hill, but unfortunately his foot caused him to lose balance and he fell into the snow. When he'd brushed the snow away from his face, he stared up at four Russian soldiers, aiming their Kalashnikovs at him. Armo was now captured, and needed to escape...

Sorry for the late response but real life issues forced me to postpone the time I had to read it,

I like the story and cant wait for Part 2 because I have questions, perhaps the second one will answer it....

As for inserting pics, you have to upload them to a site like Tinypic (What I use) then copy the link and insert an image

Very interesting story but well one thing seems off.
How could Armo foot survive 30mm shell impact?
Hokum uses Anti-tank cannon not just ordinary machine gun.
So, an impact from a 30mm shell would tear off Armo leg.
It's very lucky that he survives at all (bleeding off).

My suggestion is that the shell blows up some chunks of tree that slams right into Armo foot.

Ask away, in the middle of part 2.

Hmm, I didn't put that into equation. Let's say this was a special Hokum with 5.56mm machine gun? Btw sorry for late reply.

5.56mm is used by NATO small-arms. Russian uses 5.45mm for AK74. Large caliber guns are equipped on heli. Even USA Cobra uses 20mm. Hokum does pack more firepower, so you could revise it a bit so that his leg is hit by shrapnel instead.

Right. 5.45mm is an infantry calibre and you wouldn't have it on a helicopter gunship that is supposed to take on tanks. I'd suggest changing that bit to him getting his foot injured by shrapnel. Makes Armo seem more like a badass if he somehow manages to escape with that handicap. I also liked the story as a whole; reminds me of Simo Häyhä for obvious reasons.

I based it on him for obvious reasons. Yes all right, I will change it.
