Some questions about coding

First, I think it is not a secret that difference are massive between factions' early expanding capability, not every can deal with that though. So, is it possiable to construct a game mode that players do not have the full access to all move or units, just like a defcon setting: you can't engange others until sepecific point. Is that possiable in Generals?

Second, that tesla truck(GLA stollen tech unit)'s tesla beam can engage another enemy near by primary target, that's amazing, but just how? I know the truck have launch a specific weapon to make that happen, so what's the detailed requirement about that projectile or its descendant?

Also I think since beam weapon can be coded to look like jumping to another enemy nearby, I think it will be much more intersting to code the Banshee to have the same effect: huge ECM on primary target and the paralizing beam jump to another victim nearby. And when use in huge number Banshee will still have sufficient area effect. It's just that would occupy more weapon set and enhance mode may not still avaliable.

You see now a few Banshee almost can't shut anything down before get killed, not as good as people will expect for a high tech unit, and that spher looks a little.... well, strange.

You can govern what faction has access to and what it is granted via the map.ini

If I understood everything right, then you suggest to get rid of ECM circular attack and return its beam but with jumping effect just like on the Tesla-Recycler. IMHO, I don,t think it is a good idea, because:
1) It will be unbalanced. You may be able to shut down one, then two, then 3 units from afar, and if there will be more than 1 ECM, you may stop even big armies quite easy. That sounds like some kind of ECM-artillery.
2) IIRC, Microwave tank can shut down only one vehicle per time and still costs more than ECM. If you make ECM fire from afar and with jumps, don't you think it will be quite unfair?

3)It is a SUGGESTION! 111NO111SUGGESTIONS111!!!111 . OK, that is too much. rolleyes.gif

The ECM Tank has been called Banshee for a long time now, I'm surprised you never noticed.

It is possible, Contra does it for example. But it's not wanted in ROTR.

It simply spawns a dummy object where the projectile hits (the electric bolts are laser-draws and cannot do an OCL at the location they hit, therefore the dummy weapon is needed that fires projectiles). The dummy object that is spawned is set to auto-attack everything it sees. It in turn also uses a dummy weapon to spawn another dummy object, which in turn will auto-attack everything it sees. Due to this you can sometimes see lightning arcs between different objects even when the Recycler stopped firing, but they will hardly last longer than a second.

About the ECM tank I rather have the beam back, the green aura attack is highly difficult to use. And it's way too freaking shiny.

When there are multiple of them on screen it's really hard to see shit.

Well not really a suggestion though, just a discussiong about what it will be if it occures, I just feeling interesting to talk about it.

And I just figur out that there is problems for this design:ECM beam attack have no clips.... its beam appearence requires sustaining fire, and if I didn't get anything wrong since the beam cannot spawn, the jump attack is summoned because the unit's really weapon have clip so after exaust its primary weapon it automatically fire its dummy weapon, which will generate the jump attack. So, the jump trick only suitable for those whose primary have clip setting and don't require sustaining fire. Which means for tesla tank it is good, but for ECM tank this is not really suit the case. However this may not really not working, it should just not being perfect since ecm damage auto recovers really fast.

IIRC the Banshee name was dropped in 1.85 because everyone kept calling it ECM Tank.

Well if only you have checked inside the ini you will see the called ECM TANK is coded as CHIANTANKBANSHEE

Plus, from what I saw the problem of current ECM is that it turn a high tech support unit to a sucide&meat shield, that is very weird for me.... I know CHINA is the faction of overwhelming number, but I suppose a high tech support unit shouldn't have such a consumptive nature.
