SWR Productions Forum _ Rise of the Reds _ Shell map and 2.0 idea

OK i have been thinking for a little bit about what the 2.0 shell map going to look like with 5 sides all to fit in to one "map" then it hit me! (and i got a boo boo from the hit....ouch! tongue.gif)

5 side.... 5 maps! ohmy.gif this is more for 2.0 idea becuase it will be one hell of a lot of work. and no need for all running up visions.

idea 1

ok maybe some where on the menu screen. a plan star u click on and 5 coloured star shows up and u click on the side u want to watch. it closes back to the menu and u have to restart the game before the new shell map starts up.

or a better idea

This one more or less needs no explan. so..... ur not getting one tongue.gif

Granted that Either...eIther plan will take one hell of lot of time to make work. if the RotR team did think this is a good idea. but then again just a random idea

It's not a bad idea, I'm sure you could add options like Quick Launch to select shellmaps too.

I would expect the final shellmap would just be one huge skirmish.

i like that idea and u could also change the theme of the menu as well for each faction the only prob is, can the SAGE engine do it?

SAGE cannot, HOWEVER the launcher can wink.gif Just lots of work, but the effect were great.

Well, currently we're not accepting ideas at the moment, but I'll give you my two cents on this.

Even if it's codable, it's a big gimmick that likely needs a lot of coding and requires us to make five complex scripted maps (of which we all need to test for bugs and glitches. It in no-way effects gameplay and is simply eye-candy; I think the more productive thing is for us to do is make more skirmish maps as well as work on the campaign.

Yeah, however if Massey were to do it (I have seen his parades, if those where not scripted I have no idea what they were), there would be no problem, right?

Massey lined all the units up in-game and had them march past. That can't be used as a shellmap sadly.

Ok, when I line up units and let them parade, they still walk onto the same point resulting in more a cone shape than a parade.

Ctrl + F = Formation, units stay same distance apart and move at the pace of the slowest.

well, it's possible to do it through the launcher same as how no start units work in shockwave. Problem is you'll have to make 5 versions of the mod :/

You wouldn't imagine how much time, energy and - most importantly - nerves went into the CURRENT shell-map. Sure, it's awesome to look at but for something that is basically just an elaborate background image, there's no way in hell we're gonna do the same thing again FIVE TIMES. That's just overkill, and yet, the novelty of having five different shellmaps would quickly wear off as well. Plus, if we keep loading more and more ambitious ideas on our backs, the mod will be 'finished' around the time people play Command & Conquer 20...on friggin' Mars!

Its an awesome idea but like overdose has said it would be a massive strain on the team plus i remember some one said back at FS that the guy who worked on the shellmap nearly became zombiefied. He put massive amounts of time into the shell map and worked like the clappers to get it finished.

Maybe, Massey, you could put together a trailer showing different sides in action. Kinda like the ZH intro.

F = Formation (only works on groups of ground units)
Number = Hotkey/Macro number.

u read my mind.... the next big idea i had was to make the "intro" vidoe but only after i got the symbol. from some one that can make that.

i even had a idea to follow the ZH like one.
u how ZH sead: u thought the war was over! u were wrong!

i was toying with:
you tought that you took 1 step to closer to lasting peace...................now u take 5 step back!
or
1 step to closer to lasting peace.........................5 step back!

just some ideas im toying around with.

I'd suggest a no with the "5 steps back" part. Sounds too corny.

But something like that would be cool.

Something with the closing line "Now the attention of the world turned to Africa" maybe?

RotR is fought in Euorpe, Africa and South American Union. to the best of my know how. so maybe it needs to be a little more general <---(hehe bad joke)

just a other random idea... maybe one map.... 5 camps (bases) With RotR team making maps now. maybe there be a realy good one for a 5 bases and the camera flying past all 5 watching all doing what they do best.... 1 vs 4 tongue.gif

I have an idea about shellmap. I think it should show some new features from the mod. Here it is...

- Pathfinder is using binocular to overlook a plain from the edge of a water fall. Camera focuses on his back, viewing the plain.
- Camera moves forward and rotates 180 degrees to show the waterfall and moves backward to the plain.
- Some ECA and Russian units (tanks, vehicles, heli) rush toward each other and fight.
- After some tank battle, the screen pans toward a town not too far away where Russian troops are pursuing ECA retreating infantries.
- USA A10s fly in and attack the Russian troops.
- USA light vehicles arrive and help the ECA.
- GLA tunnel appears and start attacking the USA or the GLA can appear from a forest nearby.
- Camera pans away toward the river nearby. There are some GLA defense.
- Chinese amphibious and heli move in across the river and attack those GLA.
- Chinese keeps attacking and GLA keeps reinforcing from tunnels.
- Camera moves back to the tank battle plain. ECA and Russian keep fighting with various units.
- Camera heads back toward the Pathfinder overlooking the tank battle plain.

What do you think? Is there too much detail?

Good ideas, but sadly impossible until ECA are implemented.
Comr4de said the ECA units are nothing more than just art at the moment, nothing has been put into a playable game style yet.

If there is no ECA at the moment, just change them to USA.
I think it will give you the same feeling.

The current shellmap is very large, it has enough room to implement GLA and ECA when they get in the mod.

just thinking out loud here. but wouldnt it make more sence to have ECA in the middle (beening the turtle of the family) and have the 4 side come in for the kill? but then again maybe one vs 4 may not be the best way to go with this.

but then again u think about the story we been show so far. joint USA and China attack on Russia (then spilt up) GLA harass Russia (and less % other factions) and Russia attack ECA. so in a story sence it would make more sence to have Russia in the middle and 4 vs 1.

But Casojin brings up a good point about showing some new features from the mod. i cant speak for the GLA and ECA yet! but the idea of USA sniper using new ablite and USA hover tank rush behide a tank colum and China using hellfire migs to clear a side of a brige. all the none river tanks crossing brige and some crossing the river to flank (any) enermy with some han gunships for surrport or EMP drop to disable defences. all this seems good but....

well what im realy saying here is these seem to be a lot of ways this could go. each has its ups and downs.
any way i think i lost the reason why i started this post but i like to hear other points of view.

From the germanic goddess 'Easter' who had those eggs to show she is capable of good children (amongst other things), and it was normal at that time to give boiled eggs colour to show they are boiled and can last longer than non-boiled ones (as in there is no fridge). So it became common to paint and hide those eggs as presents over the years. The christians then took over the habit, transscripted it to Jesus' resurrection and made their thing out of it, thus we have that still today. I hope this helps.

in game terms are things hidden to be found tongue.gif its related to what kamuik explained, only instead of eggs they are usually other things

Afaik there was an easter egg in the 1.0 Shellmap where on the train was a Kodiak-R of General Aleksander (if that counts as an easteregg).

And there was a seriously OP unit in Shockwave, both shellmap and worldbuilder.

i know that... i was the first one to annous that it was spoted. if i remember right i think it was a week and a half after release. (or maybe 2weeks tongue.gif)

IIRC the "All your base are belong to us!" was originally in ZH...

I've seen the truck, but what's this about the speaker tower?

That GLA quote is used by the Fundamentalists too.

I know the origins of the phrase but I haven't heard it from speaker towers in-game :S

Is it specific to one General? Because I just played at vChina and I never heard anything from clicking on it.
Unless it's in a Chinese kinda voice and hard to understand.

Nope, it is just REALLY hard to get (a 1/8 chance I would say), when that really short sound comes where the dude says something like 'Comming' and AFTER that, the electronical sound, that is 'All your base are belong to us!' biggrin.gif

I still can't get it to do it :S
Maybe there's more conditions I haven't met yet or something.
I get a short voice, then it fades and there's like a Didgeridoo noise but nothing after that.

Strange...
