Hey guys so this is my idea for a near-future RTS with a few weird elements (such as mutants, cloning etc.). Hope you enjoy.

The rise of a revanchist Russia and the incorporation of many Eastern European nations had long been a source of indignation amongst Ultranationalist circles within Eastern Europe. Indeed, even before the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989, secretive cabals known as the Iron Brigades had formed from Eastern European ultranationalists, military officers and political groups, seeking an independent Eastern European order. A Slavic Entente, if you will, where they could once against extract revenge upon the Russians, the Western Europeans and the Americans who had exploited their peoples and their lands for so long. The Iron Brigade spread, capturing not just nationalists and fascists, but also those who remained within the Communist machine, tired of constant dictations and interference from those in Moscow. When the Wall fell, the Iron Brigades were stronger, but they lacked the numbers, the materials or the positions to affect a full hostile takeover. Instead the Communist institutions fell and were replaced swiftly by those of Democracy. Almost overnight, Eastern Europe switched from one exploiter to another.

The rise of Democracy, however, gave the Iron Brigades new methods with which to exploit their power. A more meritocratic system saw more Iron Brigadiers within high-ranking positions in Eastern-European militaries, secret-services, intelligence agencies and civil bureacracies. As time went-on the accumulation of power continued and was furthered by events such as the Orange Revolution in Ukraine, the Tulip Revolution in Georgia and other protests across the Slavic world, where the Iron Brigade often had control of key-institutions and players involved in the civil unrest. The private face of the Iron Brigade Central Leadership became Andriy Galey, a Ukrainian ultranationalist and Colonel who wrested control of the Iron Brigades from the Triumvirate of former Communist Leaders who had asserted themselves in the interim years.

The Iron Brigades' actions became more prevalent towards the latter half of the first decade of the 21st century. The deployment of NATO missile shield bases in countries such as Poland and Romania fed further into the perception that the Americans, Germans, French, British and Italians simply sought to exploit Eastern Europe as a springboard to Russia. Furthermore, the Russian invasion of Georgia exacerbated fears, particularly amongst the Latvian, Estonian, Ukrainian, Romanian, Moldovan and Bulgarian members of Russian intervention in their own affairs. The Brigades worked even more diligently to reinforce their grip upon those nations who they sought to lead to greatness.

Their dream of a united Slavic Nation came under threat however, mid-way through the second decade, as the overthrow of Ukraine's Pro-Russian government and ensuing Civil War saw the deployment of Western Special-Forces 'Advisors' in Western Ukraine, and thinly-veiled Russian battlegroups in support of Rebels in the East. With Russian control exerted firmly in the East, the Iron Brigade was forced to accept that it could only infiltrate the Western Ukrainian institutions and departments that made up the new Pro-Western Government. Yet as faith in this new Government stalled, and a tentative peace saw the withdrawal of much of the West's 'advisory forces', the Brigades gained yet more control over the weak Ukrainian Government, and prepared themselves for the coming ascendance of the new Slavic Peoples' Entente, the Intermarium.

The year of 2017 finally saw the Brigades plans placed into action. Massive civil disobedience amongst the populations of Eastern Europe was triggered by what they saw as corrupt, incompetent Governments, the meddling of Western powers in their affairs, Russian infiltration or a reactionary drive towards authoritarian rule and furthered intensified and aggravated through extremist groups under the control of Brigade sympathisers. Bombings, demonstrations, abductions of government officials and running gun battles became not uncommon sights throughout Eastern European cities for the first four months of 2017. Yet Galey had not initiated the chaos for no reason. As the disobedience fermented into open unrest and even revolt in areas of Romania, Bulgaria and the Balkans, the Governments looked towards their agencies and militaries to help. Deploying them into the streets to restore order, the governments across the lands of what would become the Intermarium sought to restore order. Yet within hours, each of the these governments fell. Whether the soldiers turned their weapons on the Government, mobs swarmed the offices and palaces of leaders or commandos captured ministers attempting to flee the chaos, it did not matter. In less than 5 hours, as flagpoles across the newly-christened Intermarium flew their new flag, Galey declared in a broadcast across Eastern Europe, that this would be 'a union for our peoples first, foremost and forever. That we shall be a bastion from the clutches of Americans, Russians and Europeans alike and stand tall and proud as the New Intermarium'.

Yet as national borders fell and the citizens of these nations welcomed their new Union, it would not be a smooth transition for all. The rise of this new power, consuming both CIS and NATO powers right underneath the noses of their former compatriots. Brussels and Moscow were driven into crisis mode, birthing the Russian Intervention the following week and standoffs between NATO and Intermarium troops in Poland, Romania, Bulgaria and Estonia. Initial Russian actions the following week saw incursions across the Intermarium-Belarus border, as well as Russian-held areas in former-Ukraine. Whilst initially making gains, Russian troops were quickly surrounded and cut-down by a mix of supporters, militias and conventional Intermarium troops. Heavy losses dogged the initially optimistic Russian intervention and Moscow was forced to withdraw embarrassed and humiliated and unwilling to launch a full invasion of a new, untested and unknown power, with almost unilateral support of the people. Brussels, by comparison was faced with a emerging hostage situation. Many NATO soldiers and bureaucrats were now trapped by crowds and soldiers under the control of a new and unpredictable power, one whose core principle the territorial integrity of Eastern Europe. Initially standoffs held for weeks, further lengthened by the Intermarium's need for troops on its new Eastern Front. The withdrawal of Russia however, returned the Intermarium's focus to NATO troops trapped in their territory. Whilst during the interim weeks, Brussels had managed to evacuate the majority of its officials and soldiers from the Intermarium, a significant number of German, American, Norwegian and British troops remained in Camp Bravo, Estonia. The situation further intensified following a situation in which a NATO Puma fired upon Intermarium engineers seeking to breach a blast wall around the camp. A daring operation would be launched to airlift these besiged soldiers and destroy any equipment left. A combined Helicopter and Aircraft assault rescued over 500 soldiers still trapped and destroyed the entirety of the NATO Compound, however 47 Soldiers and their rescuers were killed, when 7 Blackhawks were downed by Intermarium Air Defences and MiGs. Whilst the blatant territorial violation infuriated the Intermarium, for now they would accept it.

The Intermarium quickly pursued an agenda of industralisation and development of indigenous arms as well as chemical and biological weapons programs. Galey sought to develop the Intermarium into a significant power, one that would threaten the natural order NATO and the Russians had crafted since the fall of the Iron Curtain. Their strength was further increased through the assimilation of Hungary into their new order. Whilst initially remaining independent due to a lack of strength from the Iron Brigades, the election of a populist Hungarian president in 2019, saw their entrance into the Intermarium swiftly. With the entrance of Hungary further manpower and resources came under the control of Galey and his governors. Industrialisation projects in Ukraine, Romania and Bulgaria sought to further develop the Intermarium's capacity for war. Now stretching, from Estonia to Serbia, and Ukraine to Hungary, the Intermarium was a force to be reckoned with.

The Intermarium began to further consolidate itself, with regional Iron Brigade cell leaders becoming Governors and the glorious deeds of the Iron Brigade taught in schools. They organise rallies and have special political militas designed to counter the influence of the army. Furthermore, Galey began to authorise the investment in darker technologies: cloning, chemical weapons and mutation, to name but a few, driven by the need for a strong and invincible Intermarium. Yet in 2021, a new enemy emerged. Calling itself the Free Slavic Army, it was a loosely affiliated group of various terrorist and rebel causes. Launching isolated attacks on bases and facilities across the entirety of the Intermarium, the FSA became better and better each time. Their forces were equipped with a variety of weapons, from homemade explosives and guns, to Russian equipment acquired through questionable means. It became obvious that the FSA was Russia's attempt to destabilise the Intermarium, yet they were continuing to gain momentum and support- forcing the Intermarium to reply with often ruthless tactics to diminish the FSA's gains.

As 2024 looms, Galey, facing significant opposition from the Free Slavic Army and their Russian supporters, launches a tactical nuclear ballistic missile into the Czech Republic, claiming that NATO sought the exploitation of the Slavic People's. Killing 689 when it struck a Czech town, the attack was seen as the first blow in what was to be called the Euro Crisis of '23. In response, NATO activated Article 5, authorising the deployment of the NATO Intervention and Security Force in order to intervene in the Intermarium. Furthermore, the UN Security Council authorised the deployment of the Unity Security and Resources Group (USRG), a Conglomerate of Private Military Contractors employed by the UN to further standardise and improve the capabilities and strengths of their Peacekeeping forces. s these two forces prepare to intervene, Russia ships yet more weapons and men in the form of VDV, Spetznaz and SVR agents to the Free Slavic Army, hoping to capitalise on this Chaos and reassert their dominance in the Slavic Lands. Galey and his inner circle prepare their nation for war, great parades and Iron Brigade rallies are held, conscripts and militas are called to action and dark experiments and chemical and biological weapons as well as black market nukes are stockpiled in order to save the Intermarium.

The game would have four factions:

The NATO Intervention and Security Force: Generalist/Brute with ranger in the form of an air force. The NATO Intervention and Security forces are the amalgamation of Rapid Reaction forces deployed by NATO high command to invade and overthrow the Iron Brigade Regime. NATO buildings are built by selecting them from the Command Centre and placing them on the battlefield, once placed, a basic construction scaffold will appear, with a flare placed, as the building is built more, a V-22 Osprey will arrive, carrying the necessary equipment to finish the building. On the battlefield, NATO units take on a generalist trait, focusing on a variety of areas, but not being the master of anything and any specialisation is only granted through their chosen General. NATO can summon 'specialised' brigades with a single click, which grants them a few units on the battlefield, with a particular focus, for example, a Mechanised Battlegroup may summon three Leopards and two Pumas, and so on. NATO also has a powerful and varied air force and can utilise this to unleash serious hurt on their enemies.

Generals
Shock and Awe General (Aircraft and Hardhitting vehicles)
Special Forces General (Emphasis on artillery, specops and low footprint operations)
Air Force General (Aircraft and Helicopter Arsenal with highly mobile ground forces)

Unity Security and Resources Group: Elitist/Cannon with a wide range of powerful yet niche units. A Conglomerate of PMCs hired by the United Nations and funded through a combination of Corporate sponsorship and member country donations, the USRG deploys expensive, high tech and elite units to the battlefields of Eastern Europe. Commanding a variety of advanced weapons including drones, elite contractors, exoskeletons and advanced weapons' platforms, the USRG makes up for its lack-in-numbers with cutting edge hardware and weaponry. Whilst from the get-go, Drone constructors are the cheapest of the three construction units and are also amphibious and Drone Collectors are also the cheapest, both USRG structures and units come with a hefty price tag and a building consumes its builder. Whilst this can be offset by the fact that all USRG units remain at least somewhat relevant until the end game, losses heavily punish USRG commanders. The USRG boost the strongest secondary economy also and as such are well set up for the late game. A variety of long range weapons, as well as Hover Vehicles, Nanite-repair and drones mean that USRG forces can augment their capabilities in battle.

Generals:
Enforcer General (Focus on Mechanised warfare with CAS)
Security General (Base Defences and turtling- limited offensive focus)
Peacekeeper General (Search and Destroy tactics, long range weapons and mobility)

The Neo-Intermarium: Horde/Brute with elements of technical. The Intermarium favours heavy frontal assaults with large numbers of units mostly, but also benefits from a number of stranger technologies under its control. The Intermarium builds buildings similar to the ITFP and FSA, by deploying its Construction and Logistics vehicle, the venerable U-0 armoured construction and recovery vehicle. Armed with a grenade launcher, the U-0 allows for aggressive expansion early. Whilst the mass-produced legions of the Intermarium provide a basic military force, the Intermarium can also construct the Clone Lab, which allows them to produce a copy of each infantry unit deployed to the battlefield, effectively doubling the soldiers commanded by an Intermarium general. Furthermore, each Intermarium general allows you access to a certain element of the Intermarium tech-tree. The Iron Brigade grants you super-heavy weaponry, the Special Weapons Division various illegal and highly effective weapons of war within the Nuclear, biological and chemical domain, whilst the Scientific Corps gives you access to mutants as well as weird weapons of war created in order to defend the Iron Brigade's dream of the Intermarium

Generals
Iron Brigade General (Brute/Numbers)
Special Warfare Division General (Chemical and other war crime weapons)
Intermarium Scientific Corps (Darker and more unique scientific weapons such as mutation)

Free-Slavic Army: Subversive/Cannon with elements of Horde. An amalgamation of various terrorist and resistance groups opposed to the Iron Brigade and their Intermarium, the FSA values strength in ambushes, mobility and stealth to cripple the enemy. They make the Intermarium's numbers their weakness, NATO's overt presence and the ITFP's expensive and few numbers a liability. The FSA's Russian-supplied Construction Truck can unpack into structures and repack at will, allowing the FSA to engage in map control quickly and effectively. With bases constantly on the move the FSA can manipulate enemies at will. Traps and IEDs can make ground combat extremely painful and cheap and effective anti-air weapons can relegate out the sky. Through a variety of Protocols as well as a late game building, the FSA can summon the support of Russian special Forces and SVR agents as well as unique Russian weapons systems. The FSA can hide their bases using Camo netting and Scrambling Devices allowing them to strike from the shadows. Illegal Nuclear and Thermobaric weapons also find their way into the hands of the FSA and can be used to great effect against their enemies.

Generals
Partisan General (Highly Mobile units and vehicles with emphasis on raiding)
Rogue General (more conventional focus on units, tends to focus more of forward assaults supported by conventional artillery and a decent air force)
Cyberterrorist General (EMP and Hacking Weapons as well as some cannon equipment, good base defences too)
