Another week, another update for you chaps!

South Sudan, 2041

"This is Sokol-1 to Oryol", pilot Arkady Federov contacted General Orlov as his Mi-24 approached the scene of the ambush. The other Hind, Sokol-2, was following close behind him, providing cover.
It had taken them almost ten minutes to reach the location. Any attackers, they presumed, would be long gone and thus, the objective of the mission changed from close air support to casualty evacuation.
"Give me the feed of your gun-camera", the General replied, and the image that soon came up on the screens sent a chill down the spines of several junior officers in the command tent.
The leading BMD was blown in half by what must have been several heavy artillery shells wired together while the second vehicle was demolished by intense RPG fire moments after the pessengers made it out.
After the Grads had unleashed their deadly volley, there was nothing left for the helicopters to recover but charred bones surrounded by what must have been the foundation walls of a nearby house.
The scene would have been deathly silent if it hadn't been for the rotor blades, but before anyone could find the words for some profound statement of grief, Sokol-2 was shaken awake by the sharp buzzing of the missile alert.

"Chyort! They've locked a Stinger on us!" the pilot exclaimed seconds before his Hind was engulfed in flames and crashed.
"I'm seeing movement by the farmhouses at two 'o clock!" pilot Federov reported frantically as he spotted a group of insurgents near the location from which the smoke trail had come.
"Pyotr! Open up on these bastards!" The gunner obliged and the four-barreled rotary cannon quickly kicked into high gear, obliterating several rebel fighters with a rain of 12.7mm rounds.
Their comrades answered in kind, pulling a camoflage net off what turned out to be a massive machinegun emplacement.
"Their hitting us!", the pilots panicked at the sound of heavy bullets impacting their helicopter.
"This is Oryol to Sokol-1, you must pull back immediately.", Orlov reacted. The usual determination of his tone had given way to somberness. "I do not want to lose any more people today. This is a black day for the motherland."

The Worker is still the lowest link within the GLA's chain of organisation, but at least they received some nicer clothes by now...

Armed, motivated and more ferocious than ever, the GLA Rebels are once again ready to take the fight to the enemy.
In addition to their trusty, nearly a century old AK47 assault rifles, they can also throw Molotov cocktails to burn enemy troops, both in- and outside buildings.

With the large-scale introduction of subterranean tactics, the 'defenders of the tunnel network' have become more integral to GLA operations then ever, as have their crude but effective RPG launchers.

The legendary insurgent Jarmen Kell was among the few higher tier GLA operatives to survive Sulaymaan's purges, and for good reason: His skills as an assassin are still unrivalled.
A backfiring IED cost him half his right hand and thus the ability to aim precisely for vehicle weak spots or vision slits, but being the impeccable marksman that he is, Kell quickly adapted his methods:
Ditching his unwieldy KSVK anti-material rifle for a handy Dragunov, Jarmen is now able to fire several shots in rapid succession in order to suppress and immobilise multiple targets.
In addition, he has trained his mastery of the Stinger missile launcher to the point where he can hit air targets at perfect angles and with optimal timing to guarantee a kill.

This heavy 20mm machine gun emplacement is the basic GLA defence structure and the bane of all infantry.
Once upgraded with AP Bullets, it can also deal noticeable damage to light vehicles and air units.
Like all GLA defences, it can be upgraded to either become stealthed or heavily fortified.

That's all, folks! Stay tuned for more insights on the new GLA soon and have a nice day.

FINALY GLA has a decent anti-infantry defense. The tunnel network gun was frekin weak. I'm lovin the dushka nest design. By far the best part of this upgrade imo. Although for Jerman it wouldve been funnier if you said he took a bullet to the knee and couldnt fire accurate anymore.
So i'm guessing the dushka is more of an anti-helicopter air defense than a anti-fighter given it's smaller sizer and probably dmg ( that is if the stinger site will make a comeback ... )

I can confirm to you guys that the Dushka is a nasty weapon. Do not think of it as just a machine gun that damages infantry. It's a beast. A bunch of those with AP Bullets will tear through everything weaker
than an MBT in a matter of seconds. Now, they can also target air units, but they're not very efficient against planes, as they are generally fast enough to fly past and drop their ordinance largely unhindered.
The firing sound is pretty badass too.

Cool update...a few nitpicks though; if I recall the modern versions of the Hind have a 30mm cannon instead of a 12.7mm minigun, and the DÅ K is a 12.7mm machine gun rather than a 20mm cannon.

The Dushka is only partialy based of the real one as this one is WAAAAY bigger than the real thing and generaly in countries like afghanistan a big gun is generaly just called a Dushka tongue.gif (or at least so i have been told)
As for the hind rotery cannon.
Ours is based of the one using the 12,7mm rounds and not that 30 mill autocannon i beleive you reffering to.

Love the update.

just one QnA: does the cannon have a option to hold attack?.... let the enemy fly over and attack the "base" and DAKKA DAKKA

Here's how it works:
Every GLA defence (including the Dushka, obviously) gives you the choice between two per-structure upgrades.
The 'Fortifications' upgrade, which makes the structure more resilient, and 'Camo Netting', which gives them stealth.
You can't have both on the same structure and the upgrade only applies to the structure it has been purchased for.

Great update! Totally love the Dushka. Specially the idea of modular upgrade - either stealth or holding ground with added fortification. That brings something new on the table.

Would have loved to hear the Hinds use the modern 30 mm cannons instead of the old 12.7 mm minigun but that's minor. As far I remember the in-game Hind functions like an autocannon anyway.

Love the looks of the GLA infantry, specially the veils. BTW what features differ the Tunnel Defenders from the old RPG troopers beside their new look?

It is a really creative change on Jerman Kell and the lore has also been well compensated. Can he freely switch between his weapons? Or is the stinger his special ability that has a cooldown? Sounds like it's the later and he has a 1 hit kill weapon against aircraft.

The new workers look great, maybe a bit too sleek for what semi-slave workers would look like but oh well.

One last question - will stinger sites make a return? Or will GLA use a different defense to deal with tanks and planes?

Camo clothes upgrade works for them. That's it.

No, see below.

QUOTE (SpiralSpectre @ 25 Mar 2012, 7:38) *

Yes it has cooldown because yes it's an instant kill.

Remember they STILL don't have shoes by default wink.gif

Stinger Sites make a comeback with the same upgrades the Dushka can get. It is however way more suited for aircraft kills and less against tanks in comparison. Both it and the Dushka are made to complement each other.

- The weapon they use in-game actually is the rotary machine gun. Actual auto-cannons will likely have a more distinct effect in future versions.
- The Tunnel Defender has only been visually updated so far and has been renamed in order to prevent confusion between it and the Russian RPG Trooper.
- The Stinger, as well as the Suppressive Fire function, is a manually targeted ability, not a fire-mode that can be switched.
- Yes, Stinger Sites will make a return as a more effective anti-vehicle/anti-air weapon than the Dushka.

EDIT: Bloody ninja'd!

They should be able to since they've only been visually updated so far except for their camo cloths upgrade.

Plus otherwise there would be even less difference between them and Russian RPG conscripts.

I sense a Tom Clancy reference in Kell here... Anybody read The Cardinal of the Kremlin?
