I love maps. I like to make fictional maps, edit existing ones and just make random borders and stuff. But I always use paint and they look bland and boring. Whenever I see mods and games like Rise of the Reds, Deep Impact or Rogue Republic make maps they look awesome and professional. I'm just curious, what tools in photoshop, or whatever program you use, do you guys do when making these maps?

Worldbuilder textures? I mean, it is possible to make very good looking maps by using only those.
Adding custom ones fall into the modding category, not mapping. This post has been edited by XAttus: 27 Mar 2014, 12:43 -------------------- XAttus

No, no, no, I mean maps as in world maps. Political maps, not multiplayer maps. Whenever I see a world map they have varying geographical textures yet faction colors and fancy names and everything.

I use Photoshop, though any good image editing program will do.
You can find a lot of blank world map images in google, You can also use Google Earth or Google Maps. -------------------- |

Your best bets are Photoshop, GIMP or Paint.net (program, not website).
