my experience has told me that my impression on things tends to go wrong. moddb page has says that in 2.0 generals will be selected in-game, does this work like company of heroes, or would you be forced to select before you can do anything else?
if it's like coh, would there be a base faction which has a fully developed tech tree, or only the basic meat and potatoes, just to give the player a bit time decide?

I think you'd have to pick at the start of the game, in order to avoid complications.

Perhaps because the game is limited to 15 selectable sides I guess.. And with this system you will be able to introduce more generals for each faction.. Maybe?

No,it is because it was intended to be way like that in original Generals, and Hunter liked that idea along with scrapped choosable generals,
which are ones we will get when version 2.0 arrive.
So we are basically getting three mods merged in one,Rise Of The Reds,Rise of Europe and Alpha Generals...

i know that, but this would merely be an endeavor to accomplish what has been accomplished. at the end of the day, we wouldn't consider the project incomplete should rotr continue the classical c&c sub fac selection, not to mention that if this contraption would be glitchy, it would take longer to perfect. but i have confidence that dev team knows better than I do.

^This and plus the fact you can easily scout out your enemeys faction but guess what general he is.For lets say playing agaisnt USA thats a huge deal, they need the most scouting atm cause have flexable and dangerous playstyles.

Far as I know, COH-style subfaction selection is realised by a mod called remix.

There's still a difference since your human opponent can only see your faction on the match setup screen while he'll only know which General your using by the time he sees any of your special assets. Some Generals may have it easier to conceal their identity for a while than others.
This mode of implementation was intended for the original game and I would also assume that it's less code-intensive since it doesn't require 15 individual faction files.

Hello, Admire-ral!

I think it works like Command & Conquer Generals The End of Days (minus the starting dozer). You select a general in the Command Center. After the selection (maybe for a period of time), out comes a dozer made specially for the general (most likely to have the same model as vanilla dozer) and a hotkey. I8.gif

I have a question, though: Is it possible to make that the Generals Powers be affected by the General selection upgrades? (To put it simply, once you choose a general, the General Powers will change in accordance to said generals' arsenal. Is this possible?) I ask this with consideration of two factors: SAGE engine's limitations and The_Hunter's SAGE engine bitchslapping prowess. mindfuck.gif

Well, this whole feature wouldn't be part of our plan if The_Hunter wasn't even remotely sure of its feasibility. We haven't really worked on it yet since this is 2.0 material, but I wouldn't be surprised if he's already tested the basic mechanics at some point.

With regards to selection, it makes the most sense to 'deploy as your chosen general', because otherwise imagine a senario where one general has some strong strengths vis-a-vis another general. Then whoever 'picks last' has a significant advantage. Hence it should be 'a gamble' chosen at the beginning of the match, rather than at another time.

Out of curiosity. Is it possible to add a fourth button titled random that would randomly select a general for those times when you want the game to be true random.

Armageddon is here..............

I just hope that all generals will be able to fight on equal foot with all of the others instead of having the old stupid counter system that ZH used again. The old "A beat B, B beat C.." like Emperors are useless against EMP and aircrafts are nothing against Minigunners were stupid and imbalance as fuck and I don't want to see such things ever again.

since here it seems like all generals will have an standard army instead of the "lol no artillery for tank general, no tanks for the airforce", it should be

I have a question though.. How will the AI select the generals? I'm pretty sure it won't always be the same, so will it be random or will it be like he chooses after you choose your, like to counter-picking you?

I was referring to whether it was possible to make it such that:

-General Jeremiah Bradley has the Carpet Bomber and the other US Generals none, while General Eugene Griffon has the A-10 strike and the other US Generals none, and General Francis Thorn has Paradrop and the other US Generals none
-General Bao Jin has Radio Intercepts while the other Chinese generals have none
-General Willem van der Meer gets the Bulldog Turret and the other ECA generals none, while General Charles Cutting gets the Eurofighter Clusterstrike and the ECA generals none.

If I read it clearly, the Generals share the same GP menu, so I am guessing they could use the same logic used for the Pandora Protocol in transforming the Tear Gas into Nerve Gas and Smart Bomb into Neutron Bomb, but for the disappearance and appearance of General Powers, I have to wait and see what magic the Wizards of SAGE Bitchslapping have to do, be it in regards to said Pandora Protocol logic or in regards to a differing logic. 8ani5.gif

I think you should make it so that we can pick the subfaction for the AI though.

Should make it like Blitz where the AI can be everything all at the same time.
Because that's...you know...fun.
Yes...fun...
