Not sure if this is in the right forum but according to EA games website EA games is shutting down the online function of dozens of games including Generals and Zero Hour on June 30th of this year 2014.

Its no joke and its realy happening.
EA games themselfs are not shutting down the servers its rather that gamespy severs are beeing shutdown by their parent company IGN (i think). As for ROTR this effects us very little since most people play on hamachi, game ranger or something simulair anyway. The only thing it means is that after that date Generals Online will cease to function and exist. --------------------  |

Well it isn't as shitty as the older BF games being shut down (when the maps were actually great and not boring, plain junk and the vehicles didn't move around like crap). Most of the C&C games these days are played via services with Hamanchi and the like and homebrew stuff.

Generals Online being shutdown...
Sure, SWR work is unaffected, BUT that does not make EA less of a douchebag than to non-SWR fans. At least we still have Hamachi and others.

It's actually Ziff Davis Media I believe. Also, I am wondering about how EA is shutting down server support in June 30th when the Gamespy servers are being shut down on May 31st. That seems... odd. EDIT: Apparently EA is still looking at measures to prevent the shutdown. also, i know about piracy laws and such, but cant you just rip apart the coding from the existing game? |
