Full Version: SEAL's kinda useless?

The things that they can do can already be done more easily by a different USA unit.

Good against infantry:
Vanguard operator can do this just as good as SEALS, with the added benefit of drones to help a little against light vehicles, which SEALS cannot counter.

Demolish buildings in seconds:
They have to get close enough to a building to do it first off, which they won't if there is even one anti-infantry vehicle, anti-infantry aircraft or stationary gun. You won't even get close with Chinese mines, and because they're not camouflaged, they will be seen before they even get close enough. Also, Russian bunkers that are made after a building has been demolished will likely kill the SEAL. Cruise missiles are the better choice.

Pretty much, by the time you are able to get close enough to buildings to demolish them, you likely already won.

Travelling through water:
-Extremely situational, most of the time useless.

Discuss.
Composite armour
They are extremely situational, but they only need to work once to win you the game.
There have been plenty of times where a blackhawk or humvee full of SEALs has won me a game. They can punish an unprepared foe like no other unit in the game can.

They are certainly not useless, but they are not easy to use, it's all about timing and recognizing your opponents weakness.

Watch that replay to see someone's fate get SEALed. (Edit: Just realized though, it's on an earlier test build, so you probably won't be able to. But I guarantee you it was hilarious.)

First off, you drop them into the enemy base by Osprey or Black Hawk, that's how you get them in.

It seems SEALs are a very hit-or-miss, one-shot thing. There's only a narrow window of opportunity to pull the SEAL rush off. You only get one chance to pull it off because after that the enemy will surely put defenses up. And if he does have the proper defenses in his base already, it will fail. But when it works, pretty much the enemy's entire base is destroyed. Might work better in team games because the enemy's attention might be distracted elsewhere.

Chinese buildings have mines and Russian buildings have debris bunkers, so SEALs probably won't be effective against them. But against the other three factions...

One starlifter
Four humvees
Twenty seals
>You have been nominated for the Freedom Challenge.

Jokes aside the water thing is meh, I do agree on that because its hard to utilize it properly. The anti-inafanty is good but it could be outdone by mass vanguards, thats just because vanguards are on the same levels of tesla shocktroopers when it comes to anti-infantry efficentcy.

The ability to let them target tanks was because....erm....because...T2 lategame bike spam counters? I dont know, either way the seal is a great unit as it is.Requires great care good micro but its one of thoose key US units that can make all the diffrence in the world.Or wait what was that saying again?

The right seal in the wrong place can make all the diffrence in a game....

You have yet to have your base wrecked by them in pvp, then you'll regret everything that made you write this thread. biggrin.gif mindfuck.gif

What about Tanya from Red Alert 1? She can do all that things stealth... like burton...
X1Destroy
It's true that the SEAL' s advantage of being amphibious is absolutely useless. Nobody ever bother with islands maps, cause they lag like hell.

Shiro
Even river maps can give an advantage when you have amphibious units and your opponent(s) don't.
XAttus
Difference between Burton and seals is that Burton is slow compared to them and experienced players will have stealth detection in their base. A seal drop can destroy a whole base in an instant and even if they die, most likely it's not possible to recover from the damage.
Skitt
yeah i can attest to the power of seals...had my base demolished in a few seconds by them
Serialkillerwhale
Seals are something that doesn't have to WORK to be effective. Just the threat of them means people will keep thicker anti-infantry defenses around their base, which is resources that won't be going into attacking you.

And it's really really awesome when it works. Except when you just blow up a expansion, then it's only slightly awesome.

That seal looks like he's up for some motorboating, even if that's a sailboat. I would be too.

USA is my worst faction and the one I less often play PvP, mainly because of my poor airforce micro (trying to train sometimes with China Migs, but still it will be a long time coming tongue.gif ).

So I'm prone to say stupid things here but let's try.

I tried them back in the days (some 6 months ago), and I was a little deceived by their anti-infantry capacity as compared to their RA2 equivalents. Actually I can't tell if it was a matter of range or DPS but I really felt like Vanguards do much better vs. inf, which is discussable since they already have a lot of business to handle manning their drones, and being turbo machinegun specialist on top of that is a little bit too much IMHO.

Actually if you send a small army at some particular building in the middle of your opponent's base, it might be crucial in delaying some nuisance from your opponent's arsenal provided you're successful, but you must be aware that the boys are not likely to come back to base after that (especailly VS. USA or Russia whose destroyed buildings leave some bad surprise behind them).

Now I think cruise missiles are not nearly as efficient as SEALS in destroying buildings, mainly because they lose a lot of damage from their long range capacity. And I also say that after many games LMAO at seeing those Tomahawks Launchers spending ages trying to hurt my war factory from such a long distance they couldn't even notice that gattling turret tearing their beautifull missiles to shreds right in the air biggrin.gif .

Actually they are anything but a frontal attack unit, so if you cannot sneak them around the whole map to find some unguarded way to your target building, just forget about them.

Actually I like sneaking a lot when I have time and am in shape, so I think the fact that Burton climbs cliffs while SEALS can swim is kinda interesting in some situations.

Btw I still have to watch some old replay to find out how Bruce managed to get them in that time on Flooded Plains once I had made sure no Nighthawks could get through and I was trying to deal with his tomahawks rolleyes.gif .

If you face the SEAL as a situational unit you'll see that it's great for your mission; I think that it is effective against infantry in the right measure, ie, only in order to fulfill its mission: demolish the enemy base.
Tipu7
In PVP Seal is most dangerous unit. You have to use them at time and place where your enemy expect them least.
I remember a match in map Danger Close (3P). When my opponent attacked me with spam of inferno and Gattling tanks and I lost my entire defense and tanks and aircrafts. Two of my seals luckily were in base, I moved them through water and attacked from right side where no defense was present. He didn't mined any of his structure as it was early game and on one side his dozen inferno and gettling were destroying my base and on other side my both seals were doing same job in a more effective and fast way.
I destroyed his Command Center, Breeder reactor, Power plants, War factory and Propaganda center. Only remaining targets were supply center and barracks when mismatch occured.......

That day I realized true worth of Seals, smile.gif

So you are saying you have destroyed all of this with just two SEALs and they were alive to blow up even more, but missmatch happened and prevented them from doing that? These are some serious SEALs, if they can survive a Breeder Reactor and a Power Plant explosions standing next to them tongue.gif
Neutrino
Well personally I think SEAL now requires more micro ever since it can attack vehicles.
The best way to use it was put in transport, drop in enemy base alongside other infantry units for distraction, and put in guard mode.
Now it deviated from it's highly specialized anti-infantry/anti-building role.

Don't you agree US players? Bruce more specifically?

Actually I did.....
In 1.82 seals were not promoted, so my injured seal (walking on one leg and injured from explosion) was still like a death Angel...... biggrin.gif

The Seals abiltiy to attack tanks has made it....Odd but in any case It does require more micro ofc.

I do agree but its nothing a US player cant handle,
