Yesterday evening I was fricking bored, so I decided to do something I had planned for ages: watch anime. The last time I watched it was when DragonBall Z was on TV, which is... 8 or something years ago?
Anyways, I decided to watch Hellsing, just for the heck of it. All I can say: groovy! Alucard
,nice remake of Dracula btw, is epic, Seras is cute and nice, and I love the general theme. I'm at episode 6 now of the TV series, and I plan to watch the OVA after I finished the TV episodes
The TV series is good, but the OVA is just awesome, better style and closer to the manga (Vampire Nazis get pwnd).

Good start, that was my second anime to watch sir, its a good one.
Just dont dwell on them too much, you'll go wacko like me
(Xenosaga anyone?)
You'll be fine its a great medium, a rather
different one but one that has more content than what you think.

Well, I'll finish the TV series either today or else tomorrow/friday.
I'll start on the OVA after that (I need to make some time for those as they are longer from what I've seen).

Alright, finished both the TV series as the OVA, and I can say this: OVA is way superior to the TV series, that is for sure.
Only the finale of the OVA leaves an odd feeling: Seras becomes a real vampire, kills Zorin, and heads off to kill everyone else. End of series. I suspected to see more of Alucard, the Major, and the Iscariot.
Have I missed an episode (this was from 7), or must I read the Manga to know how it ends?

There's more Hellsing coming. Expect 5 more OVAs. They are not finished. I'll post here when they release a new one.

Cheers Overdose. I've started reading the Manga now to know how it ends

And that was the Hellsing manga...
Bloody hell, that was epic

Honestly I thought the ending of the manga was a downer. We'll see if they try to do something else in Ultimate.

Hellsing is a legend... I haven't seen the anime yet, but that will change when I have some time. Currently I got to the point where the Nazi are about to invade London, simply epic with no compromise from Alucard.
It's a pity nobody made a film really based upon this manga/anime (I know there's a film named Hellsing, but it's... meh).

9 Nov 2010, 21:36
@ Overdose: I doubt it. From what I've seen the OVA are pretty much equal to the Manga.
And yes, maybe the end was a bit... different then suspected. But the last episode (
that Alucard returns) is funny (especially the stuff between Integra and Seras)
I'm seriously considering to start with New Dawn. Anyone following that one?

I recommend you watch Claymore and Black Lagoon next.

I'll keep those on mind Overdose

Yeah, you can also keep an eye out for new eps of the Black Lagoon OVA: Roberta's Blood Trail; it's looking like it'll become something quite epic really soon.
Dutchygamer
12 Nov 2010, 21:28
From what I quickly read on Wiki, I think I'll like Black Lagoon more the Claymore. I'm not that much into the fantasy, but more into guns
Claymore is more about decapitating zombies than fantasy.

Ah well, I'll see if I can find some time to watch/read any of those 2 today

Make sure you get a good fansub for Black Lagoon.
The dialog is very deep and important.

Actually, Black Lagoon is one of the few shows out there with pretty good dubs.

Been a while since I posted here, so a little status update:
Watched:
Black Lagoon
Black Lagoon: Second Barrage
Currently watching:
Claymore
Even though I thought Claymore wouldn't be interesting, it is quite cool after all. I should be finished with it the Friday before Christmas
On my to-watch/read list:
Dragon Ball Kai
Fairy Tail (Manga or Anime)
Hellsing New Dawn
Black Lagoon (Manga)
Shame I don't have a real Christmas holiday this year, or else I would have been able to spend some more time reading one of the to-read list
In other news: as you may noticed, I switched from Alucard as avi/signature to Seras

Good sir, we may have the same taste in anime, we seem to have
literally watched the first animes in almost the same sequence. So to time skip for you I'll suggest the following; yes I've added images to give you a taste of what they're like.
Darker than BlackErgo ProxyTrigunCowboy BebopBlame! (Manga)
Ghost in the Shell Stand Alone Complex & 2nd GigWitchblade ^ Those are pretty much win.
If you're going for a bit more "happy go lucky" but not "oh my god I am going to gauge out my eyes for watching this" then try this:
Record of Lodoss War (I'd almost say this is the Grandfather of Medieval anime)
Legend of the Legendary Heroes (Retarded name but good and surprisingly grimdark).
Gurren Laggan - it's epic,
Yes I know you've heard that a million times but once you've watched it you'll know. Let me put it this way, nice and simple. I hate mech anime - this was the exception. Give it a good try.
Soul Eater - characters may have outright retarded names, but its a great watch.
Tower of Druaga, Aegis of Uruk (Same series).
Kara no Kyoukai (movie series) - pretty awesome.
Fate Stay Night...and thats all I can think of thats actually been worthy of recalling. There's a lot of crap I've watched that I didn't mention because in short, its not memorable or it's down right
Japan. So give those a quick look and enjoy man.
It's a different medium but its one with a broad range for audiences, young and old. Surprising isn't it
?

Cheers for the suggestions! I watched some episodes of Cowboy Bebop on TV a couple of years ago, when they where broadcasted here (shame it was at such a ridiculous time though). It was funny, even though I didn't understand much of it
I'll add that one and some the others to my list of 'anime to watch/read'

Been a while since I updated this...
Claymore: it has a cool ending, but a bit dramatic imho. Perhaps I should read the Manga as it continues after where the anime series ended.
Tengen Toppe Gurran Lagann: this one is completely batshit insane, but the good one. I never laughed so much while watching anime
I now understand why it is so popular. I'm almost finished with this one: 5 episodes remaining.
As for after that: I have a whole list of stuff to watch (thanks to Comr4de and Overdose), so it shouldn't be hard
Hehe, no problem man.
Yeah read the manga for Claymore, the anime ended that way because they had to end it at some point. The manga however continues the plot quite a bit, so give it a try for sure
The ending is what made the anime horrible, the parts that were canon to the manga were brilliant, but once it branched off it just got 'eh'.

Will add it to my list.
Also, currently watching Fairy Tail. God, that one is happy
I also... acquired Hellsing (both TV series and OVA) as videos on my PC in a higher resolution then the versions I watch online. Anyone heard some news about OVA 8 and further?

Break Blade is one of the few mechas that I like, but it takes a century and a half to get an episode out. Fairy Tail is a good anime, although I skipped some episodes...
Those who were watching Bleach I recommend you chose to end it after the last week's episode, because it's going in a stupid direction and it should have ended there.
Because I'm a patient man I'm still watching Naruto and reading the manga. Skipping stupid filler episodes is how I'm able to go on. The story keeps me entertained, but the fights are the coolest in any anime I've seen; it's the most big budget anime so it should be. Hopefully my grandchildren will see the end of it.
Although Naruto was my first step into to the anime fan world no show beats One Piece for me. None of you watching it?
Overdose
5 Mar 2011, 21:08
All OVAs are slow because they are meant for a blu-ray/DVD each FYI.
Meanwhile crap animes like Bleach and One Piece episodes number in the 1000s because they are low budget, rushed and full of fillers.
No offense.
DragonHawk
11 Mar 2011, 16:19
Usually skipping fillers so I'm not that affected. Bleach had an excuse because the manga author was rather slow, Naruto on the other hand has no such excuses, they just drag it on because it cashes in a lot. One Piece improved in graphics, but I did have to put up with it for a good while. It has a lot of episodes because people like it, if you don't it's a matter of taste or you couldn't endure the quality. There are a lot of good quality anime out there that end after 12-24 episodes, because... it's mostly not worth continuing, no viewers, especially the newer ones.
Not complaining about OVAs, but can't say I wouldn't enjoy seeing it released more often.
Dutchygamer
12 Mar 2011, 11:41
I stay away from Bleach, One Piece and Naruto on purpose, because I know they drag along so much, and I doubt they will keep my interest for long.
Also, while I had holidays this week, I spend more time at my mod, playing Minecraft with friends, and watching all Lord of the Rings movies again than watching anime
EDIT: also, I think my new avi/signature says enough about which anime I'm following atm
DragonHawk
14 Mar 2011, 16:11
Yes, Fairy Tail is a cool anime, although I don't think we'll be getting any manga or anime for a while.

"Shocking!"
Ehm, anyways... As I now have an internship on the other side of the bloody country, I have about 2 hours a day of travelling time. As I now also have an iPad, what better way to spend the time then reading mangas?
My list of already-read mangas and currently-reading mangas:
QUOTE
===Read Manga===
Hellsing
Bloody Monday
Touhou: Silent sinner of Blue
Touhou: Strange and Bright Nature Deity
Ghost in the Shell
Cowboy Bebop
Cowboy Bebop: Shooting Star
Bloody Monday 2
===Currently reading===
Hellsing: The Dawn
Fairy Tail
Touhou: Oriental Sacred Place
Touhou: Wild and Horned Hermit
Bloody Monday - Last Season
Hetalia: Axis Powers
Samurai Deeper Kyo
With the currently-reading it's mostly waiting for new episodes. I'm currently actively reading Samurai Deeper Kyo. I can recommend this one if you like Samurai. The style seems to be a bit between Fairy Tail and Hellsing.
I just wished I could access the Black Lagoon and Claymore mangas with my iPad... The only way I can access them is by visiting a site that hosts those images, and manually switching between pages via the browser. Ah well, can't have it all now can I
I haven't been watching much anime though. Only exception are the latest Hellsing OVA's. I also have... 'acquired' several series which I may watch when I can find the time.
As always, if you have tips for me, go ahead
