MARS
Greetings!
Our efforts to overhaul the models of various GLA vehicles continues. Since the in-game GLA faction does not represent the standardised armed forces of any fully industrialised state, we found it appropriate to further diversify their visual appearance with a number of variants much like the Technical in order to put some more emphasis on their theme of customisation and salvaging. Take a look at the new Quad Cannons, Scorpions and Marauders. We would also like to point out that we are officially re-adding the original Scorpion tank since we've come to the conclusion that changing it to the Centurion robbed us of an iconic GLA unit that, admittedly, always had more character and charm than the vehicle that replaced it.

Finally, we'd like to conclude today's update with a little reminder for all of you that on Sunday next week we will be starting our official live streams in cooperation with Hecthor Doomhammer. Be sure to follow his channel and you will receive an email when the live stream starts!

Those look awesome !!
Are those Scorpions based on some RL vehicles ?
I can't wait to see how new salvaging mechanic will work.
You guys are really putting effort into it,hope it will repay one day.
XAttus
Nice looking models there, and yes I have to admit that whenever I saw the original scorpion model some inner voice always told me - look, more free foooood for my [insert any unit that could blow it without problems here]!

While the new model didn't bother me, I'll be happy to see the old one again.
Planardweller
Beautiful models, I like a lot that pseudo-Sentinel turret on Marauder.

Great work, team.

Altho i can't say for certain since IPS made them but i beleive they are all custom designs.

It is clear that WW2 light tanks were inspiration (same as for vanilla Generals Scorpion),
but my knowledge of WW2 armored vehicles is quite limited,so I really wanted to Google them out XD.gif

Nice visual updates guys!
Will there be reason in lore why the GLA decided to use the original Scorpion again?

Nice update. The second variant of the Quad suits my eyes very well. Much better than the old ones.

Scorpion with variants is better than vanilla, but not much. The texture doesn't look all that good compared to the Marauder. Is it from vanilla?

As for the Marauder, I love the first variant to the left. Like a whole different tank, so badass!
Svea Rike
Dem Marauders... Holy shit do they look good!

Seeing how the classic Scorpion is now sort of established as a catch-all term for all GLA-made 'tanks' that are made with whatever scraps there are, we can assume that there've always been many more of those than there were Centurions. Eventually, the GLA simply started gutting the Centurions for parts whenever they needed something for some other vehicle or something like that, doesn't really matter.

As far as i know, the scorpion tank in generals vanilla was based on the italian p40 tank, weird i know.

Anyway i love the visual diversion and distinction you guys are adding to all the units.

Nice job on the models there!

Apparently the Scorpion was very loosely based on the WWII era P 40 tank, the beta/Dr. Thrax Scorpion was based on the FV430 APC. The Scorpion just looks like a generic fictional light tank to me, which was likely the intention.
Dutchygamer
The new Marauder turret makes it look much more like an usable tank. I approve!
Mr.Kim
So here are new GLA's toys:

-3 new Scorpion Tank Variants
-6 new Technical Variants
-3 new Quad Cannon Variants
-4 Marauder Tanks Variants

What's next? Grad Variants, eh? I8.gif

Personally, I operate under the assumption that the Scorpion really is just a thing the GLA builds in a garage based on a loose interpretation of a viral blueprint. It's still ridiculous to see those things taking out advanced MBTs (or hell, ANY real tank), but the notion that it's custom-built still holds up better than the idea that the GLA somehow obtained this vast fleet of obscure Italian tanks from WW2.
Svea Rike
@MR.Kim: I think the Scorpion, Technicals, Marauders and Quads are just thrown together with makeshift materials whilst the Grad is an actual production vehicle so I'm gonna bet no, no Grad variants.

Before i knew they where P40 i always assumed they where supposed to be T34's, that made allot more sense to me at the time.
Nemanja
I know that this is going to sound stupid,maybe...
But where is Sulayman's insignia on Marauder ?
TheCeLL
The new models are awesome but I'm kinda torn on the scorpion because I really liked that Centurion model :/
Shiro
I'm pretty sure the Scorpion is a Panzer 38 (t).

Perhaps, you have no idea what's coming up next. About Grad, that was particular joke.
TheCeLL
The marauders have rotating turret?! No man, that's like... that's like the marauder's THING.
Don't take away its thing sad.gif
I liked the idea of a GLA Stugmeschutz. It represents the GLA's industrial capacity so well... that it has like none. It's literally a gun inside an armoured shell. tongue.gif

An obsolete fleet of ex-Soviet tanks made sense in my mind too. I assumed they were some variant of the T-34. But I also imagine that a generic tank was intended by the designers.

Excellent stuff either way.

Or how Type 59s from the 1960's are able to compete against the actual MBTs of the US, CIS and ECA.

turret to hull is way to big to be the scorpion and the T34 feels more long and wide
i think italian tanks are more likely to be the inspiration to the basic scorpion design (more the M13~14~15 series than the P40)
obssesednuker
Aw, you guys are returning to the Old Scorpion's look? But I like the Centurion-esque appearance of the current Scorpion. It fits more neatly with the early-Cold War kitbash vibe the GLA's got going.

I took certain design features from various RL tanks (like the M3 or Type 95), but non of them is directly based on any. smile.gif
__CrUsHeR
Many variants for the GLA, very cool. I enjoyed the new Marauder variants, but the Scorpion were a bit strange though none of the tanks follow exactly one RL line.
Svea Rike
Holy crap I just noticed, the second Quad version resembles the Quad from Generals 2, right? Well, the Marauder also resembles the Marauder from Generals 2:

anyone can tell me why old scorpion come in the next version?

because GLA is suppose to GOFAST, apaprently the old model wasn FASTENOUGH, so we are back to the old scorpion design.
i personally think is a bullshit excuse honestly. but for opinions, colors.

Not really.

Giant Gens 2 Quad Cannon CLICK ME

Not intended considering that the Quad Cannon in Generals 2 resembles that of either a garbage truck, or some sort of armored truck vehicle; but mostly a custom made vehicle with dump truck parts on the back. I really liked the flat silhouette of the Isuzu Forward since it broke the current trend of box, and then another forward box for an engine; it was more interesting to use this japanese truck. The Marauder is however inspired by Generals 2. Personally I would like to avoid any designs from Generals 2 for two reasons: One it's a blatant rip-off and unoriginal and Two: We can do better than that and create our own content.
J Y fortress
It reminds me of some WW2 Japan light tank.

So cute,so 'GLA style'
Dangerman
They look nice, will the Scorpion & Marauder getting any extra armor/health along with firepower with salvage upgrades?
Mr.Kim
The armor salvage upgrade didn't change in current test.

Not exactly, The centurion looks stronger and tougher, and the GLA was never about being stronger and tougher.

Also the centurion was added back then cause the team wanted to give the GLA a more pausible post cold war feel as opposed to the silly post ww2 feel IIRC, but in the end they changed their minds and decided to go for a "homemade/junkyard" feel instead (Hence, all these build variations), and the centurion simply didn't fit in with that.

Ironically, when the centurion was first added people complained as well and asked for the old scorpion to come back.
MARS
We do generally try to avoid such U-turns at this point in development but at the end of the day, this is for the most part a visual difference and a slight stat modification, not some insane way-post-release design shift like it's recently been done to Payday 2.

I think we should brace ourselves for a nuclear detonation impact. 8I.gif

Your comment (below) received a reply from IPS:

Just like a Vickers Medium on a 38t chassis. The middle one is a Japanese Type 95 Light, the left one unknown.

--------------------
that awkward moment when you look up the type 95 and notice that it looks very much like the thing you've just modeled with no particluar rl tank in mind.. XD
GeneralCamo
Have you considered keeping the Centurion as maybe a special tank for one of the Generals?
