SHW Skirmish Trouble, Game Crash after aprox. 10 sec Options

Hi

I recently got the beautiful SHW mod running again on my WIN 7 x64 PC (lost count of how often I had to re-install/ adjust compatibility/ bang my head against the wall...) and now I have the following problem.

Starting game -> all normal
Main Menu -> all normal
Single Player -> Skirmish -> choose map etc. -> start skirmish -> get my workers going -> start construction -> suddendly all my workers die/ buildings explode -> "you have been defeated"

WTH?

The AI seems to work fine (getting bases up etc.). Never experienced this problem on my previous PC (Vista).

Any ideas? I'd greatly apreciate your help!
