I just want to hear what you guys think of this. I have a friend who endlessly says its overpowered because it keeps up range with enemy artillery, making it impossible to crack defenses.

What is your input on it?

That is the main purpose of that thing. To engage enemy artillery. And no, out of all of ECA's arsenal, that thing isn't OP.
P.S. Topols are though, vs ECA. (in current version), too much hp.

If you manage to spam them, yes, they are OP.
Use Air Force, General Powers or try target their Solar Reactor should do the trick.

On the serious note,no,they are not OP,even if spammed. Get some sponge unit upfront and let your arty do their work.Besides, they are inaccurate.

thats there point.
if ur opponent has a large number of these spammed, either go around them, Gp or sw the things or as TB said send sponge units (ones that can take a ton of damage) up front first to take the hits then come in with your arty.
or u can try to pop the reactor though depending on the player this can be harder to do than breaking the defenses is.

The thing is that their DPS is low for their cost, and they take up space that could be used for other things, like telecom towers, or other kinds of defenses, or production buildings. If he has 20 mortar pits in one place, sure, that damage adds up. But then it would be just as bad if he instead had 20 gun turrets in that place - except that your arty could outrange them. Really mortar pits just for countering artillery and maybe contributing a little damage to your other defenses. If he has nothing but mortar pits there, and you attack with a bunch of tanks, they don't stand a chance.

If he has 20 mortar pits AND has gun turrets and guard towers too and all that, use air units. If he has Skyshields too...maybe consider attacking a different area? It takes a lot of time and money to build up a defense carpet like that at every possible angle of attack.

If the enemy somehow has built up such a dense impenetrable network of defenses at every direction around their base, then maybe you should ask yourself what you were doing the whole time he was building that up. tongue.gif

If an enemy managed to build enough Mortar Pits to block any and all entrances then that means you let them. Mortar Pits are relatively costly and quite inaccurate, so building enough of the things in a cluster that is OP will require a lot of time and ressources, and it's unlikely that there would also be other defences nearby, especially AA, so try airforce if you see the things or very fast ground units to evade their slow shots.

Waiting for him to build such a network...While I build topols...waiting for him to build something worthy of a topol strike...

Pits are slow, Rocket/Mortar buggies work wonders poking the line.

Only GLA have problems with mortar pits spam, everyone else just laugh at them after using GP strikes.

I use Mortar Pits for their Tear Gas. I find their defensive firepower is meh.

You can always use recyclers healing aura in combination with grads. Get enough grads and recyclers to heal yourself; and you can break through Mortar Pit clusters. Of course; its best just to divert your forces onto a weaker area of the enemy defense, but if assaulting a weaker area isn't possible that's how you do it.

Bomb trucks also work well provided the enemy doesn't have mines or stealth detection.

And if you do manage to get your GP's up; if nothing else overwatch and oil sabotage can help you out greatly by disabling both structures and driving the cost up.

Of course by that time you may have picked different GP options; but its not all hopeless.

Yeah, what usually happens is that I create a complete belt of defenses that surrounds my base. He also plays GLA. I agree with what you guys have said though. He shouldn't let me reach that point.
